discovery 3 steel wheels?
Discussion
Does anybody know of a supplier and possible cost of a set of Steel wheels for the disco 3. I have just returned from Costa Rica where a relative owns a Disco 3, the roads are pure 4X4 country but the alloy wheels fitted to the disco can't take the hammering (Note: Solihull)the untarmacced roads dish out. He has a Defender to do the donkey work but for family travel has the disco which is reliable in the tough terrain but is let down by cracking alloys, hence a steel replacement is required
BUT it is cheaper to buy a set of alloys from Ebay (I bought a set of 18 inch SE alloys for £200 incl tyres) and dont worry about trashing them.
Gazzab,
Many of the roads in Costa Rica are crushed rock(not very crushed) or scraped earth, so flats are common and instant, when you get a flat Alloy on rock it cracks or tears the rim making an air seal hard the alloy has to be sent away to the Capital San Jose for repair and it can be a couple of weeks before you get the wheel back, you don't drive without spares in Costa Rica. A steel wheel hitting the road no problem as the Defenders steel wheels have done on numerous occasions hence the need for a steel set for the disco3.
