Hi,

I have a 2001 330d which won't start. Cranks fine but won't fire. It was perfectly fine coming home from work one day, no noticable problems or drop in performance/misfiring etc. The following morning it just wouldn't start. I've checked fuses and the fuel pump relay and these are all fine. I have run Carsoft 6.5 and the only error it throws up is '1260 delivery pump control system' which is a bit non specific, as I dont know much about modern diesels. Any clues what it could be - I'm trying to see if its something I can fix myself (if its not too difficult), before resorting to paying for the car to be recovered to the dealers and pay them to find the problem and fix it.

Cheers, James

thanks doc, saved me the link. I replaced my pre-supply pump, under front passenger footwell, under car. Easy to hear when you turn the ign on. When mine didn't start I just kept turning the ign on and off til i heard the pump. This code may elude to that.

Also the area is very suseptible to water ingress, although it's panelled off it's not water tight. Check pump connector is not shorting in a puddle.

Is it fairly easy to change? How much do they cost roughly?

About £160 for an original pump. 2 new clips. Remove panel. Clamp input hose. remove connector, input and output hoses. Slide off rubber locating sleeve. Replacing is the reverse. Just take care with diesel spills, nasty stuff. 1 hour max
