Hi again, 3rd question of the day...

My driver seat belt refuses to rewind and in fact won't even come out smoothly anymore, there just no real spring in it all of a sudden.

Any ideas? Also, are these units serviceable by any garage, or is it a case of replacing it, in which case any idea where to buy the unit?

Many thanks redface)

I know this is the wrong time of the year for this but, is the roof folded down (maybe it's in your garage)? The folded rear section can impinge upon the belt and stop it from moving.

Option 2. Has the inertia reel mechanism moved out of kilter? If they are not level they lock.

Option 3 (and most likely IMHO). Some cars get very wet behind the seats. Perhaps the inertia reel unit has corroded?

Hi,
I had this problem on my Chimaera when I bought it a few months ago. It got worse and worse until it was taking me 10 minutes just to get my seatbelt on. I took it apart but nothing obvious appeared wrong. I bought a new one in the end. Managed to get new old stock. Cost me about £75 though.

Hey chaps,

1) Nothing to do with the roof down and folded bit impinging on the belt.

2) Its not a problem that the belt locks, that always used to be the issue, it will move, just not smoothly and you can feel there is just to recoil.

3) Nope, its not damp behind there. lol..

Might be a case of opening it up and maybe it bit of WD40 will loosen things..

Oh, Monster, where did you get your new old stock from?

Mine were giving the same problems and I replaced them with current replacements from same maker, about £36 plus p&p & vat from memory. I can dig out the paperwork if you need to know. Kim.

Sometimes parking on an angle can cause the 'inertia' bit of the 'inertia reel' to engage, locking the belt. Other times the belt gets trapped behind the seat or something.
In the first case parking on the level and possibly adjusting the inclination of the inertia reel unit can help.
If the unit itself is past its best, TVR carparts sell replacements.

Guys,
I've just replaced both of mine with Securon 500/30 (check number on Steve Parkers alternative parts list).

The pair cost £77.85 from my local factors. Bargain I thought! - Repalce all bolts with plenty of copperslip!! Just had to drill & re-tap passenger side laqp mounting where it picks up on the outrigger.

Very common don't write off the belt too soon, a lot of the time you park in the same spot giving a similar problem each time.

I sometimes find that if the seat is all the way back it can touch/hold the seat belt. I have thought that some typr of tunnel for it to travel through might help, but I haven't designed one yet.
