Not a huge fan of Fifth Gear, but VBH is staging a shoot-out between the Exige S and Caterham CSR - Might be worth a watch! thumbup

Being a 7 owner and ex Exige owner I can't wait but the CSR will trounce the Exige...
Hopefully VBH will be driving both.

Fitting a squeal-o-meter will decide the winner.

When VBH had the 997S beat the 240R by a fraction of a second, I was well pleased...as I had the former at the time.

But now I have an Exige S (20bhp down on the 240R?), I am not so sure that the result was spot on, as there aren't so many flat out parts on that track?

Ah, no doubting that one then...that Caterham is a monster!

I think that was more down to VBH not being able to handle the Exige properly - Tiff set a quicker lap time (by nearly 1 sec) in the 111R than VBH in the 240R. And he was also about 1.5 sec quicker than her in the 911 S.

Er... I don't think so.That Caterham is a monster and with like for like drivers at all levels and in decent weather it would spank the Exige.

The Exige is a great car, but as a track monster the caterham is better.

Saw the result coming before they started.

The Exige is great twisties but the Caterham is a track daemon.

Surely the 2-11 would have been a better comparison with that Caterham, in terms of price and everything else. Against the Exige was a bit of a foregone conclusion

Caterham was up 40 bhp and 300kg lighter. Also, can't help but think I'd have preferred to see someone who could drive (Plato/Tiff) in the hot seat.

Would have been nice if they'd bothered to put the CSR's hood and doors on properly....or better still she could have driven it with the roof off!

CSR would be quicker that the 2-11 in the dry but i think that the traction control would have given the 2-11 the edge in the wet....but the CSR may have even scored some points for praticality versus that!

Not a great comparison test...

Did you notice the track conditions as well between the runs. The Exige run was a bit damp whereas the CSR was with standing puddles and noticeably much wetter conditions I thought.

Absolutely Simon.............until it breaks, it's not often that a Lotus has something spanked on reliability but it you were doing a 24 hour race my money would be on the Lotus lasting longer........

not so sure about that?

going though history, the only current Lotus to actually finnish a 24 is Red Motorsports car back on the 2006 Britcar 24H, the same car DNF'ed in 2007, and only just classified as a finnisher in the Dubai 24 this month...

Caterhams on the other hand have finnished several Nurburd 24's right up untill they were banned, and that was with the K, the CSR;s are a step forward relability wise, so I would personaly put my money on a CSR in a 24H race...

Only saw it last night....I dont think sideways is the way to drive either an Exige, or a CSR. The CSR should have correctly trounced the Exige though; 20bhp and 300kg there was only ever one result.
