first track day ... oh my god I'm excited
Discussion
Hi Noel.
I'm a newbie to track days, having done my first at Bedford in November and another last Saturday (very wet). Might I be so bold as to suggest you join Lotus on Track and enjoy the company of other (mostly) Elise owners and be part of one of the best respected TD clubs in the country.
ALthough Bedford is a bit of a treck for you I went up from Plymouth, another chap from deepest Corwall and I met a couple of lads down from Glasgow. Travelodges can be booked at just £19 a night in advance and with LoT prices it makes for great track days. On track manners are exemplary and the standard of driving generally regarded as very high.
Any stupidity or tomfoolery is dealt with: One guy was kicked out of the club on Saturday for doing doughnuts in the paddock.
LoT also do lots of other track days around the country including plenty oooop North.

cheers tipper, im on the lot mail list and have gone through book a track this time which has good reviews from what I've heard , I've got a 20 min instruction at the beginning and one at the end of the day, and I won't be leaving it at that I assure you ( unless I smash her up on the first doo). i fully intend to spend all my holiday cash this year doing as many days as i can, anglesey is only a 2 ish hour drive and bedford is 4, and also I can have a bit of surf time whilst I am there, the wet suit thinks it is a drought.
hopefully I'll become more of an 'active' member this year ....anyway a new bottle of rioja calls !
cheers !

Go for a case of Marques Des Caceres. The 2001 is fantastic but at least double these online prices... unless you have relatives in Spain

Nice one fella, really excited for you. Get the car prepped and ready before you go (check fluids and top up if needed, check wheelnuts are torqued up, check tyres are OK etc.) and take some spare oil, a tyre pressure guage and a footpump with you, and you'll have a great time.
Build up speed gradually and don't do anything you're not confident doing. Not a race, so keep the red mist under control, and keep an eye on your mirrors.
Once you get the bug, it's hard to shake off! Can't do one myself until April and I'm gagging!!

Anyway, forget the white (that's for cooking) the RED is the one to go for. As for buying half a dozen at a time... [edited to say I don't buy a pallet at a time to save shipping]
Coastal circuit is great with a bit of everything and a good surface - no kerbs when I was there in July last year - be very careful on the corkscrew especially if it's wet and the drainage on the banking isn't the best even after it stops raining*
It pissed down for three days solid when I was there in the middle of summer as you can probably tell
10/10 for booking a proper circuit for your first outing - not having a dig at the Bedford advocates but that place leaves me somewhat cold.

Ditto too, Have had a track day bought as apresent driving S1 and Porsche??? (Most likley stay in the S1
Have been thinking of trading in the Elise for an older more modified one as i only drive at the weekend in the SR and fancy starting to improve my driving and enjoying the lotus for what it was designed to do. Prices seem to have dropped on resale so in a quandry.

The great thing about Bedford is that its a track with virtually nothing to hit and inspires confidence in a track day newbie (like myself) I was there last weekend for only my second track day and it was absolutely soaking. I was able to push the car as hard as I liked knowing that errors would be punished by nothing more than a harmless spin. Plenty of more experience peeps where also enjoying the conditions in the same way. I learnt so much about my car and, more importantly, about my driving - I don't think I'd have been able to do the same if I'd been worrying about armco, tyre walls etc.It pissed down for three days solid when I was there in the middle of summer as you can probably tell

I know what you mean about it leaving one cold though - especially if there's a decent breeze blowing
