Just had word from Lotus main dealer My big end has gone, its got to be a new engine (111R out of warranty)
£8000.00 they are having a laugh.
Does anyone know where I can get it rebuilt for a reasonable cost or offer any advice before I tell the wife.

Sorry to hear fella! Can't offer much advise on engines except Gooby on here has just had his Toyota rebuilt.

What sort out use and mileage has yours done out of interest?? (if you don't mind of course!)

Good luck with the wife!

Sorry to hear of your troubles and expense, what were you doing when the engine went? Was it caused by over-enthusiasm?

try www.silverstoneperformance.co.uk - they do a lot of Toyota upgrades etc on MR2, Corolla and Elises now - they may be able to rebuild/have a cheap replacement..maybe it can come back with some extra power to take the sting out of the bill smile

I dropped the Sagaris there at the weekend for a service and was chatting with Matt about their Elise developments which are based on the Toyota motorsport kits smile

I don't think you can convert Toyota engined cars to Honda yet.

Think it's being worked on though.

putting a Honda into a 111R isnt trival or a standard kit - may well cost a lot more frown

Bummer.
Like the others said, could be an opportunity to put something else in.
What about a used "S" VVTi engine from a grandpa trundled corolla, bit down on power but must be a lot of crashed ones around by now (or?) guessing unreconditoned they must cost south of £2k. Call/google an independent toyota specialist.
you could always try a aygo engine (!) only 66kg!!, lots of gear changing, 80mpg cross country and something unique.

That must be gutting! Have a look around breakers yards. There seems to be a few 111r's at Douglas Valley.

Feel really gutted for you.

Just hope that it can be fixed for something much more reasonable than 8k!

btw do they know what caused it to go bang?

Find a used engine and find a mate who knows his way around a spanner. I'm serious, swapping a like for like engine really isn't difficult.

This is not good enough!

Do we know the total number of Toyota's that have gone bang? If there is a specific issue with the bottom end's which seem to be the main cause of failure then either Toyota or Lotus should investigate, this sound's to me like oil starvation or something but I'm not an engineer, I've seen around 10 myself now

Or a Lotus specialist could fit a s/h engine for you (although you may need to source it but there are bound to be a few written off Corollas or Celicas around). Hopefully someone will start offering K-series conversions soon biggrin

Edit: Ah you've found one. Good work

Whereabouts are you? I'm sure among us we can recommend a good specialist to fit it
