I was tempted by the later, but TBH, I really prefer the original front light scheme.

Second one seems dear for a '98. And December/January isn't a good time to be selling a TVR. And no test drives? I understand the sentiment but I wouldn't stump up £16,500 folding without having driven the car.

Some of the tuned 98s have been going for that or more. I think it is meant to be an excellent car.
There are people wanting only 2K less for a similiar age 4.2 which makes the car look like good value.

I haven't really been keeping up with Cerb prices, but generally something will always sell if it's priced correctly. In January that may be less than in June.

i sold my cerb,,, 4.5 99 mint condition 33,000

with intrax supsension...sp exhaust...reamp by austec..402 bhp ..induction kit ..new clutch ..slave and master cylinder... mb quarts amp plus subwooofer for 14k,..

cerb market is all about how keen the buyer is and how much the seller wants to sell...

i had my car for 6 months and spent 14,000 on upgrades... but i felt the car was flawed so i knew that no amount of upgrades would make the car better... and not that i was desperate to sell but i didnt want to keep a car that i was unsatisfied with so the guy got the deal of the century and loved it,,

if you want a cerb you need to be patient ,.,but lets be honest when we want one who has the power to be patient..

Agreed, think this is a good price for the spec - not seen the car - although its very close - but unless it was a "bite your hand off bargain" theres no way id buy without driving. A driver who knows his car can conceal all kinds of sins - (if they wanted to of course)

Also im waiting for a ramp to double my garage capacity as 1) i dont want to sell the s and 2) i dont wanna leave a cerbie on the drive.

Having the car for only six months and then trying to sell doesnt exactly instill confidence in a buyer, Id personally want to know what the reason for selling was...but having said that, the buyer did get a bargain at that price in any case.
Had mine for 4 years before parting with her,(99 on a T plate 4.5...) spent loads on upgrades too, but pleased to say i got near asking price. My tuppence on this is....if the car has had the right sort of upgardes, is a half decent looking car, and is 'known' within the P/H pose, then higher windscreen figures are possible.

Also, IMHO, the first car in the first post is too dear...and Id say £1500 at least by todays prices...the second is a good buy knowing the previous owners input to it, but by not allowing test drives to serious buyers will seriously put people off...

Are the intrax no good then? I agree that a cerb isnt exactly a lotus when it comes to handling but cerbs on decent suspension can run rings round some pretty decent exotica on the track eg ferraris.

Intrax were fantastic... unbelievable... before i got to the intrax i went through spax..gaz gold... nitron and then Intrax....in six months i tested them all on the car,,,

each did a specific job and depending on what you want your cerb for each one ..sorry apart from the spax... are great shocks..

gaz gold are your every day round the town driver.. he will be satisfied as long as he hasnt driven any really high end cars...

nitron...great value for the money

and intrax comparable to the ohlins/// ..intrax if you have the money ...but an austec set up is about 2k all in ....

alao re-selling after six months ... i had to be honest with the guy....the car wasnt good enough for me...

makes me sound like a car snob... but as much as i loved the cerb... i just think its a flawed car...

it bites back in many ways and as the people who have been trapped in them ....or call the aa..three time a week..

or have the back end over take...

so..it was like ..how much more money do you want to put in this car and the ansa was no more so it had to go...

As the "2nd" one is mine, I suppose I ought to qualify the no test drives comment.

I thought long and hard about how to deal with this issue, particularly as I know more and more Cerbs get written off each year by inexperienced new owners. I didn't want my car to suffer that fate in the hands of someone who isn't even its owner. I'm not really keen to sell the car at the end of the day but circumstances are what they are...

Truth is, if a known PH'er was interested, known to the Cerb forum, I'd take a more lenient view but I'd still have to be certain I'm not talking to a test-pilot - it would have to be someone serious about buying the car on the merits of it's specification and well-documented (on PH) history.

What should I do about insurance? I am not paying for an insurance policy which covers all-comers. I had considered that if someone NOT on this forum was interested then they could leave the asking price in cash with my wife while we go on a test drive. That covers me in that circumstance but I haven't considered how to cover myself when a PH'er turns up. I still need some sort of cover but I'd like to show some leniency in "the rules".

I've had a lot of interest for the car and only one person has mentioned the test drive issue so far.

I also remember being put off by a few adverts with harsh warnings when I was looking for a Cerb so I'm fully aware how it may look, however I had (naively?) hoped that any serious PH'er would have started the conversation with me, during which we could explore the test drive issue together. An enthusiastic and reasonable buyer could come to a compromise with me, I'm sure.

I can think of two other options:
1) Insist that they provide documented fully-comp insurance cover. There are companies that do daily cover -- if someone's serious about the car they won't mind stumping up the £30 or so that it costs. You could even offer to knock it off the price if they buy wink
2) Trade it to a dealer

Option (2) means you get far less cash, but saves the hassle and worry. Depends on how much that is worth to you biggrin

I don't blame you. I bought my cerb without driving it myself and I didn't feel that it was an issue as we did go on a test drive and Rob (who I purchased the car off) drove it as I asked (and far beyond!). I then had a full inspection at TVR Power and made it clear that I would purchase the car on the outcome of the inspection. TVR Power said it was mint so I paid Rob the cash and picked the car up. I think it may be the less serious buyer that fancies a nice day out driving somebody else's p&j.

Bugger, I always thought that was one of the nicest looking Cerbs around.
I did say never again and i'm moving house at the moment to somewhere without a garage, but...
