Hi to you all.
I am considering buying a Defender 90 (or earlier 90) but I am worried about the seating position as I'm 6'4" tall and struggle to get comfy in my SIII.
How easy is it to remove the rear bulkhead so the seat can be moved further back? It is possible to do this in the pre-Defender 90's? Would is also be possible in the SIII or does the fuel tank get in the way? Is there a (cheaper!) way of not having to use the £250 metal bars that I've seen advertised?
Thanks.

It doesn't matter how tall you are as there's miles of headroom, it's how long your legs are that matters in a 90!

My mate is 6'7" and drives one easily - they only real way to tell is to try one. If it's a well-used example check the drivers seat slides all the way back as they sometimes seize with all the crud if they are not slid all the way back regularly. The other possible option is to fit a smaller diameter steering wheel which is a lot less hassle than removing the bulkhead.

You could fit a set of mud rails.Takes the seat higher meaning you can move the seat back further, thus eliminating the need for a smaller steering wheel.

Thanks for that - I agree that the headroom is not a problem but I must have long legs as I find Im too close to the pedals for comfort in the SIII. I like the idea about raising the seat - I hadn't thought of that one - this will effectively move the pedals further away and the sloping bulkhead would mean the seat would slide back further. I'll try it in the Series with a bit of 2x1 or even 2x2 - it is a Landy after all!!!

I've now looked into this and found where the Mud rails come from - their site is www.mudstuff.co.uk. They do Mudrails for £40 and a nifty looking bulkhead removal bars for £105! May have solved my problem then!!!
