If there is anyone that can be relyed on its you lot, so.........

i need to get a database of clients, basically i am out selling and making contacts on the road, all information is written up on client cards which i have printed, with full details of how the call went, what the net course of action is etc, next visit, client comments etc.

But its all getting i bit 1980s in the car with all the paperwork, can anyone suggest a source on the net where i can download a database that would handle such needs, or is it best for me just to create one from scratch.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

You could handle most of what you want to do with Outlook and use of contacts, calender and tasks therein. Do you have it?

You could use Act! which is a very versatile and an easy to use database.

Cheap and effective it can also cope very easily with letters, mailshots etc and can run on an individual basis or with more users networking if need be.

Beware ACT - it will not run on a 64 bit server, workstation or laptop. The authors (Sage) are aware of this and when I contacted them they specifically do not intend to introduce this ability. Not even in the forthcoming version.

That's only the current version confused

Previous versions (which are still available) will run on a laptop/desktop etc. and can still be networked if necessary.

Being an ACT user for about 8 years now, I must say their updates are less than brilliant. I have seen more stable and less buggy shareware titles. This, all from the most powerful accounting software company in the world!?

There is even a version of ACT a few years ago that the sales people 'skirt over' ever mentioning existed as it only lasted a few months due to the fact that it was considerably slower and buggier than the previous version.

That said, it is about £100 and does the job, clunky though it is.

highrise may be worth a look, however it needs an internet connection, so may not be suitable when your on the road. They have a freebie version or a 30 day free trial of the paid for version. As it's web based there is nothing to set up, it just runs in the browser.

My emphasis was 64 bit processor - Act will never, in the words of Sage, run on a 64bit computer (unless you install a 32bit virtual PC on your 64bit PC, buy a second copy of Windows 32bit and install Act on that)
