Having just got a Shogun - purely because I need something that takes 3 kiddy seats of course wink - I had a look to see if there was anywhere on here for the discussion of off road fun.

It seems there isn't! frown Given the amount of interest my thread in TV&S has generated pretty quickly from one small area of the country, please could we have a specific forum for this?

Seconded.

Plus it also fits in nicely with Speed Matters!

As the old green laning addage goes, drive as slow as possible... and as fast as necessary... biggrin

Hmmm.. it could be a generic 4x4 section, but we don't want to take away from the marque specific forums. Threads on X5 servicing, should belong in the BMW section. So we don't want to cause confusion / duplication. If we made it clear what the forum was about, then that would be ok.

Thinking about this a little more, there are other off road forums (http://www.mud-club.com/forum/), but most are club or area specific. A lot of Land Rover forums have off road sections, but that's specific to Land Rovers.

I wouldn't say it was an area well catered for, which is why I put a forum on my website. It's reasonably new, but it's quite hard to get a forum established, and people only want to join an established forum!

PH would serve it much better as there are already enthusiasts here. So it might draw new members, or bring out some current ones out of the shadows!

Greenlaning/offroading is the 4x4 equivalent of trackdays. At the end of the day, it's another group of car enthusiasts. So no reason why it couldn't exist on PH from that point of view?

I agree with Signia.

The Pajero Owners' Club has a very extensive forum for all things Pajero/Shogun. What I would like to see on here is a forum specifically aimed at PHers who want to get together and/or share information on using our toys off road, regardless of what make it is.

I have the same scenario with my 260. The owners' club forum will always beat PH hands down for technical support, but we have far more interesting, regular and varied meets through PH, simply down to the larger and more diverse membership of PH.

Another vote for it here - have been thinking of taking up off roading lately. Wouldnt mind having somewhere to discuss it

I've just got back from having BF Goodrich A/T tyres fitted. I'm hoping there will be no more slithering sideways into the side of the bank on wet chalk for me, but I'd rather find someone else to accompany me just in case I get stuck. That is the sort of thing I have in mind for this forum, along with "how do I avoid slithering on wet chalk in the first place" type questions! laugh

Slightly O/T - but check out http://www.langdalequest.co.uk/
National parks up near you are pretty much inaccessible now, but at least there you'll find like-minded people to help you out, and in return - you can introduce them to PH thumbup

I was a member of a local 4x4 club a few years back, I'll have to reinstate my membership, never got out with them but they seemed a decent bunch smile

So, who can create this forum for us? Can we make personal appeals to the mods or something???

that's basically what we've done biggrin

Racingpete I think is the man in the know?

Can't see why not, it'd be a popular section I'm sure, and gives PH added diversity in that it's more than just a landie forum.

I guess they'd need to see if it fits in with what they want PH to be, and whether or not they feel other forums fill the need better than PH could.

I'm sure one mod or another will be along at some point to let us know.

It has been given the go-ahead and added to my 'to-do' list. Expect an update sometime this week!
