Hi all

Is anyone proficient in fitting these, I've got a Mitsi Starion?
I'm not too bad with a spanner but I've never fitted one of these, I've asked a mechanic friend and he's not sure either

cheers

Your car should already have a dump valve somewhere - if you are replacing it with an aftermarket one then you need to find out how the standard one is fitted first as they are generally of the recirculating kind.

If you are fitting a recirc then it "should" fit in a similar fashion to your existing one. If it's atmospheric then you need someway of blocking off the existing return port. You may be able to buy a fitting kit for your particular vehicle. Once you have this sorted out then it's usually just a case of undoing and redoing a few jubilee clips.

You need to find out what you vehicle has at the moment first - sure someone will be able to shed some light.

In fact you can see this one in our classifieds fitted to the blue pipe

If you're running lots of power then a dump valve is a good thing, however.....if you just have an ordinary car without huge amounts of power, like a bog standard Starion, and want to sound and look like a chav go ahead and fit one.

The recirc valve fitted as standard is more than adequate for the job. I have a std recirc valve on my modified scooby and it does a great job. Nice and quiet too!!

Don't do it!! eek

It's running a little more than standard at the moment, bout 200bhp but the addition of a turbo in the next couple of months will increase it to 300ish (on paper it should be 330-340, but being an older car it'll obviously run a little less)

What I'm trying to do is keep the engine as healthy as possible as the rest of the main components will still be standard, clutch, pistons etc
end result will be to have a decent motor for drift days.

I've had a few cars but this is the first one I've had a chance to fiddle about with, add bits on and do some of the work myself so feel free to point me in the right direction.

What turbo are you going for? eventually I will go for about 300ish. I was thinking of a Garret T28.

I was thinking of the T3 Cosworth but I've been in touch with a guy from the starion owners club who has had starions for years and is rebuilding one to race, he suggested these people:

they may have what you're looking for as they seem to have quite a range, drop them an email.

I'm really not sure TBH, being my first car that I can play with a bit I'm still learning about the bits and pieces I need to get

Would tend to agree with the above, the DV just helps to reduce the strain on the turbo blades.. If you want the full rallycar Chatter then blank of the DV but make sure you have a strong turbo otherwise you will crack the blades..
