I have been informed that if you have TVR as a weekend car, and therefore insure it on a classic car insurance, the insurance isn't too eye wateringly expensive? However, this was from someone who was 22, and I'm only 19. I'm just wondering for future reference....

Was this from somebody who had actually tried to insure a high performance car like that hehe or just the usual 'know somebody who met somebody who had a mate who reckons ...'.

Worst case you can get cover for absolutely any road vehicle just by posting a bond of (iirc) half a million quid, so there's no question you can do it. Question is can you get it down to a price you can afford?

No it was me, £315 fully comp, Garaged, 3000 mile limit with Hagerty. Though mine is a slower and lower value TVR. The hardest part is finding a classic policy that will touch you under the age of 21.

when I was 23 I flung a quote for a tuscan into confused and got quoted £2k for one used for 10K miles a year and parked on the street outside my house. Which annoyingly is only 4 times what Ive been quoted for my bloody 1.6 puma for next year.

Also with Hagerty at Silverstone, £300 a year includes breakdown cover and 5k miles

edited to say, I'm 35 and the car doesn't live in a garage.

23, Chimaera 400, garaged on 4000 miles policy agreed valued of £9500 was £353 for me, thats almost a third of my daily driver. Again through Hagerty. I don't think they'll touch you until you are over 21 though.

When I got my Griff I was 27, I know its not young but what was interesting is that the insurance Co. quoted £1200/yr to insure the griff because I hadn't had a 'performance' car in the last 12 months? I did have performance cars before but because they more than 12 months ago that didn't count. Anyway on my 2nd year insurance it went down to £450 because I had the 'performance' car for a year. All a bit strange I thought?

My Griff (domestic and pleasure, <5k miles pa, and track use) is also half of my everyday car. Interestingly, when I got my everyday car (BMW M3) I was quoted outrageous prices. But A Manning reckned the M3 was tame compared to the Griff, and quoted half of what anyone else did!

Hi Nick,

I'm a few years older than you, but still under the magic - in insurance terms - twenty five. Haggerty quoted me around £190 fully comp for a V8S, an S3C or a 400SE. I suggest you make them your first port of call - if not, shop around, I doubt anyone else will offer a price like that, but you might get something realistic elsewhere if they can't quote you.

Now, more importantly, which one do you want? biggrin
