I have a Canon 20D. I've been trying to blur the waves around here recently by putting the camera on shutter priority and setting a slow shutter. However they all seem to come out totally over exposed - almost white with no detail.

I thought the camera would not work in SP mode unless it found an aperture to give a proper exposure.

Am I wrong or am I doing something very stoopid?

Stick the camera on manual mate. ISO 100, bump up the aperature, slow down the shutter speed and experiment with the aperature/shutter to get the best result thumbup

I think the camera will do everything it can to select an appropriate aperture within the constraints of the capabilities of the lens.

If it's selecting f/22 and you are still getting over exposed images, it means your shutter speed is too long and letting too much light in.

An ND filter or polariser (or both) should help, otherwise you could go back later in the day when it's a bit darker.
