Water in foot well

I usally keep my s3 under a outdoor car cover, but went out the other night and forgot to put it on.

The heavens opened and the following morning i found that the drivers foot well had collected about 2" of water!

The windows were fully closed and the roof appears sound.

This isn't a major problem as the cover prevents this, but I would like to know where the water is getting in.

Any one got an idea?

Possibly through the wiper spindles. The bulkhead design has the wiper spindles recessed, so that water collects in them and, if the seal is poor, water will drip through and down the steering column on to the floor. This can be fixed by applying new sealant.

Short term fix: park facing downhill!

Do you waterproof the hood?
Mine isn't waterproofed at the moment and it comes through the canvas and in around the rear window stitching.

Mine did exactly the same when I first parked it up for it's 'quick' rebuild.

I employed a rather more ghetto fix, I removed the carpet mat and took the rubber grommet out ...... works a treat

Mine was reasonably watertight.

Then I changed the steering column bulkhead bearing, and after 2 nights of rain the drivers footwell was full of water. It was clear from the location of the wet bits on the bit of carpet behind the pedals, that it was coming in there - it must run down the windscreen and then down the bulkead into the bearing gap.

I've put some sealer around it for now, but don't know if that's cured it - the car hasn't been out in the rain since.

Short term fix part 2 is to pull the plug out under the carpet so at least the water runs out !

Also check the seal on the side repeater light... mine was leaking, but probably not by the amount you are talking...

I had a similar problem. In my case the rain was running off the bonnet, dripping onto the upper face of where the door hinges to the body [1] (this face is angled to drain the water onto the door seals). My door seal was puckered where it turns the angle from windscreen to almost horizontal, where it meets door [1]. The rain water seeped through the door seal where it was puckered and made its way inside the car dripping directly into the footwell. It was difficult to diagnose as the carpets were only wet at the botton of the footwell. I generously filled the puckered seal with translucent bathroom sealer and it's been fine since.

Yet another suggestion! I found that on my S1 the water ran down the windscreen along under the front wing and then into the footwells via the bonnet catches.

Its a TVR dont they all do that!!!! Drill some 6mm holes
in the footwell and let it run away.
