Get my Z3 on Saturday...

It's a 2.8 V plate (bought off here as it goes) and I have say I'm quite looking forward to it...

Sold my RX7 to buy it so I'm trading down a bit of horse power but I upgrade to a straight 6 growl and I can get the lid off. Having owned a few TVR's I really missed the hood down bit...

Anyway - thought I'd say hello...

All the best

I enjoyed my 2.8 for 4 years, so I'm sure you will enjoy yours.

BTW, you do know you can release a wodge of power quite easily, as BMW deliberately strangled that engine to keep it under 200 BHP for tax reasons?

get yourself on the E36 and Z3 forums to find out the latest, but basically.....

put a different manifold and throttle-body onto the 2.8, and the deliberate strangulation is removed; from this simple mod you get similar power figures to the later 3.0 engine.

It is essentially the same engine - bore of 84mm, slightly increased stroke for the later 3.0

(No warranty is given or implied if you do stuff to your engine after listening to these foolish ramblings.)

Sounds good - out with the spanners this weekend smile

I'll have a look on the forums - I guess the first thing will be to see which engine I have ie whether it's double vanos or not and take it from there...

Cheers

If it's a 2.8 on a V plate (like ours) then it's probably got the Double Vanos or TU (Technical Update) version of the M52 engine and to my knowledge, hasn't been converted to the 2.5 manifold successfully.

They don't seem so many ponies slower than 3.0 M54's either.

oops - apologies; my M52 was an early one, and I didn't know they'd already done something to the later one?

M52B28 early = 190 bhp/203 lbft (approx)
M54B30 = 231 bhp/221 lbft
so what is the M52 late?
