still dig my copy of "Welcome To Sky Valley" out from time to time, as you say Kyuss produced milestones in Stoner Rock, this album being one of the very best IMO
can't beat these 2 from it IMO,

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=P6uwcvHkYvg&feat... - another good track this one IMO, trippy as hell!

Hi KoenigSleep, Earth, Sunn (((((0))))), KTL, Electric Wizard
wow - you impressed me by knowing these bands

Earth (check their upcoming UK gig-dates in Feb)
http://www.myspace.com/earthofficial
Electric Wizard
stoner ?
it's doom metal with psychedelic influence
http://www.myspace.com/electricwizarddorsetdoom
Hope some of you will check the bands which I've listed in my earlier posting
Electric Wizard not stoner??
Listened to an interview with Jos Obourn a few weeks ago, he seems to believe they are and I'd agree.
Saw them a few years ago at Bradford Rio's, unbelievable gig.
I think support was Sloth.
A few more to add to the list:
Slo Burn (didn't last, but Amusing the Amazing was sooo good)
Solace (New Jersey Stoners / Metallers, check out www.diedrunk.com)
Supafuzz
Hermano
Celestial Season
Beaver
Karma to Burn
Year Long Disaster
Sally
Alabama Thunderpussy
The Atomic Bitchwax
Lowrider
Goatsnake
Mushroom Riverband
Spiritual Beggars
Spirit Caravan
The Hidden Hand
Halfway to Gone
Sheavy
End of Level Boss
There are many many more, but my memory has failed.

I'm far away from teaching you but Electric Wizard is NOT stoner rock ! You eventually got the genres mixed up

Check serious magazines or webzines, read lots of CD revs written by experienced writers ... the sound of Electric Wizard is classified as old school doom metal or psychedelic doom.
Check their label Rise Above Records (London) ...
http://www.riseaboverecords.com
Check the most recommended Doom-Metal page and community
http://www.doom-metal.com/
regarding Electric Wizard (quote):
"One of the heaviest Doom bands around. They create ultra slow, sluggish and heavy psychedelic/spacey music. Electric Wizard is one of the bigger names within the Stoner/Doom scene together with bands like Sleep. Their music, however "doped", is extremely doomy"

and another quote from that page:
At times, this also leads Doom-metal close to another genre called "Stoner-rock". Both genres clearly strive to create the heaviest sound ever and often intermix (indeed there is such a grey area as Stoner/Doom).
However one misconception made by a lot of Stoner fans is the notion that pure Stoner rock or Stoner/Doom is the only form of Doom (sometimes referred to as "True Doom" by fans, but not to be confused with the "True Doom" as claimed by a small number of Traditional and Epic Doom-metal diehards).
On the same tack however, the ignorant ideas of some Death/Doom fans that theirs is the only true form of Doom-metal is equally insupportable, this being the cause for many a heated debate. We would rather concentrate on the great diversity Doom-metal has to offer us"
Finally please check their Myspace profile:
quote:
"Our music is DoomMetal, the only true definition. We toll the bell of hell, our sound is a crushing behemoth of funeral march psychedelia"
However, Electric Wizard provides excellent music and their albums shouldn't be missed in any serious CD collection

Love stoner too. But i wouldn't class Down as Stoner IMHO
You cannot beat Kyuss. Also, Celestial Season's Orange is a good Stoner example.
Also check out Spritual Beggars. There is another band i quite like - play instrumental stuff only, but for the life of me i cannot remember their name. No doubt i will edit this post once i remember who they are!

I like Paradise lost not sure if its stoner more doomy, and another band is a favourite of mine Trouble great riffage perhaps a little more stoner!! Echoing just about everyone else on here love a bit of Kyuss.... far better than QOTSA imho!
Paradise Lost are Goth Metal, shirley?I've wanted to hear more stoner rock after falling in love with Kyuss about 6 years ago (admittedly after QoTSA), so bought Dopethrone by Electric Wizard on recommendation (I think by Allmusic.com) and can't get into it. It doesn't sound Stoner Rock to me, but as I say I've only heard Kyuss and some Fu Manchu.
I haven't really taken to Fu Manchu as well as Kyuss either, I don't know what it is about them, but the music really hits the spot!
What CDs that are available on Play.com or in my local HMV would people recommend me to buy?
My favourite Kyuss song is probably Supa Scoopa...

Dude seriously Fu Man Chu the action is go is a cracking album can listen to it over and over again!I haven't really taken to Fu Manchu as well as Kyuss either, I don't know what it is about them, but the music really hits the spot!

My mate stu put me onto them (and just about every other decent metal band i've ever listened to) and they are the only band who on bad day make things seam that bit better!!
[small] can't believe I forgot to put them into my original post{small}
AL666, I'm definitely more of a fan of the Kyuss sounding bands ('proper' Stonerrock...) than the heavier ones, but I'm pretty sure you'd like any of them in my first list above.
As for stuff available from Play I'd definitely recommend the following, though obviously try and listen to samples of them first if possible:
Hangnail - Clouds In The Head and Ten Days Before Summer (only available through PlayTrade, but excellent and definitely worth having)
Truckfighters - Gravity X (probably my favourite Stoner album ever)
Truckfighters - Phi
Asteroid - Asteroid (very similar to Truckfighters)
Asteroid and Blowback - Asteroid and Blowback
Lowrider - Ode To Io (incorrectly called Ode To Lo, but one of the classic Stoner albums)
Blind Dog - Last Adventures Of Captain Dog
Blind Dog - Captain Dog Rides Again
Fireball Ministry - Second Great Awakening
The Awesome Machine - The Soul Of A Thousand Years
Bands with John Garcia on vocals which are good but not Kyuss:
Hermano - Only A Suggestion
Hermano - Dare I Say
Hermano - Live At W2
Hermano - Into The Exam Room
Unida / Dozer - Unida / Dozer
As gbbird said, Celestial Season's Orange is another classic if you can get hold of it, but note that Solar Lovers on Play is a totally different style and not like their more recent stuff at all.
