I'm after some advice and ideas from people with a bit of experience of track days. My g/f is thinking about booking one of her relatives on a track day as a present, or maybe giving him tickets to a motor sport event if the trackday option is impractical. He's based in Thetford, used to race Minis quite a few years ago, and has fairly recently finished building a Tiger (super six?) ... i.e he knows his onions.

It's very much an open question ... was wondering if there are any tracks locally? Ball park prices for events where cars are provided? Ball park prices for events where you drive your own car? Cost of insuring your own car for a track day? I'm just trying to get a feel for the options, practicalities and costs.

Thanks in advance for any tips and ideas.

Lot of questions. What's the budget?

She's thinking of a couple of hundred quid. I have no idea if that is realistic.

Bookatrack.com offers gift vouchers in various forms - can be used for using ones own car or using one of their cars.

There may be other operators willing do do the same???

Personally I would avoid "experience days" type of things.

It will buy a trackday at most tracks. I'd suggest vouchers too. Leave the whole logistics, insurance etc to the person doing the trackday.

Yes, I think this might be the ideal solution. Shows a bit more thought than just bunging him some cash and saying "get yourself something nice", without boxing him in to some event that he wouldn't actually choose for himself. I will run it past the girlfriend (and try to take credit for the idea myself wink ). Thanks for your help, gents!

p.s. the bookatrack people seem to be running events at several tracks he could easily get to, so that tip was spot on. Thanks System-G

Hi you could always try CIRCUIDAYS they organise Well run track days with FREE 20 mins Instruction if required, Free passengers & Free extra drivers. Also they always have Mechanical back up with consumables @ the circuit & photos. I have Instructed on and done many-many track days with different organisers and found them to be very good. Forget him - get the g/f on track!

Try imaginedoingthis.com They used to be called femtrack.co.uk and because it sounded like a sanitary product they decided to change their name.

It's run by Graham Glew and Tim Harvey and provide a couple of new Civic type R's with instruction at most UK circuits. Very woman friendly.
