This is the first Cerbera I've ever seen being sold as an "MOT failure", and I wonder if it's a sign of things to come.

I would suggest that it makes no sense from whats been said to advertise this without a current MOT.

The drop he'll take from not having an MOT. I very much doubt the car will make 10K with no MOT. Would surely be more than enough to pay a garage to do a bit of welding and get a new reflector.

What 2-300 to get those done, but a good few thousand off the price to sell without an MOT?

Hugepiece, don't be daft, get it done and sell with the MOT frown

2nd'd. Get the MOT done, and maybe get it detailed, then you might get another 4k for it.

I agree.

With an MOT, that should be getting advertised around the £14K mark.

I think as is, most buyers are going to have to take Steve's word that it's only a small amount of work required, alternatively, they're going to want to take it to somewhere with a ramp for a pre sale inspection.

IMO, it'll turn in to a nause of a sale.

That said, it's not even nine years old. How bad can it be ?

Mine is a year older with a sililar milliage. I took the engine out of it over christmas to inspect the chassis and it does have a bit of rot. None of which would be seen if the engine was in situ. While its out the whole chassis will have a refurbn not a hard job so well worth doing, so i would say to anyone looking to buy a cerb really check the chassis!!

The chassis problems always seem to be on the post 97 cars.

I wonder why the old one's are holding up so well.

Agree with that. My road car is a 98, painted white from the factory. The race car is a 96 with a silver chassis, and is in much better condition, infact has no rust at all!

To be honest, the plan was to MOT the car to sell so it was a real blow to me that it failed. It's really just to save me the hastle of getting the car done that it's up for a cheap price so someone could get a bargain. Neither I nor the car have anything to hide hence why I was honest and open in the description on what the car needs. I just thought i'd chance my arm to sell as it is, if it doesn't sell over the next few days before the current MOT expires i'll get some quotes and get the work done to sell at full price. It's just gutting when you expect the car to pass 1st time that this shows, especially as nothing else is needed (bar the headlight reflector)....typical. Anyone is welcome to come take a look and put it up on a ramp if they like. I was only going to put it up for 12k with a full MOT anyway, didn't think it was worth much more than that, was I wrong??

Yea....maybe you are right. I might get on the phone later today and see what quotes I can get. PR Wood in Southend have been recommended so they will be 1st port of call. Then again once it's all done maybe I'll keep it for a bit longer......who knows. I've loved the car just the bank balance has taken a bit of a beating!

It's not much hassle though is it? It'll be a few phone calls and maybe a few hundred quid to sort, then you'll be able to sell it as a runner and make the extra. Blimey, if I didn't have one already, and with an MOT and all that work, I'd snap your hand off at 12K, and I'm sure many others would agree.

However, with the MOT fail, plus the work you have already done, it begs the question "He's spent a fortune on it, now he suddenly can't be bothered to change a headlight and get a spot of minor welding done?"

It would make me wonder what you know that you aren't telling... if you see what I mean.

I think 12K's a bit cheap for A 99T 4.5.

A good un's booked at £14K.

Someone might try and chip you on the stone chips, but as the guy who sold me my last one said ....."if I'd had it painted, you would have thought I was hiding something"

At that point, I knew he was wise to my haggling expertise, didn't waste any more of his or my time & handed over the cash laugh

I think it would be better to get it fixed as a potential purchaser may just think that if one bit of the chassis has started to go then the rest of it might be in fairly bad condition. From what I understand most cars of this age start to require some chassis attention.

In the current climate when fixed i dont see you getting more than £12K but I'd love it if you got £14K but I seriously doubt it.

On the other hand I think your right leave it up for a bit and if you get your £10K take it.

60K - has it had a rebuild yet? Think as it is you will be getting £8K offers.

Huge peice you bought yours at the same time as mine.... i nearly bought yours...you have spent a lot of money on this car ..but unfortunately getting the mot done is your last necessary spend....

but i think you are right to sell it without MOT... You know what the MOT WORK will cost and even then some wxxker is till gonna try to knock you down cos its 60k on the clock...

good luck whichever way....

Seems a strange comment, mine has done over 60k and the engine is great!

I think Gazzab's going off the averages.

Most of the cars that get "oil thirsty" on this forum, seem to be around the 50K mark. But as you say not all. My cars have been chalk & cheese with similar mileages.

If you did A poll on here, "has your V8 done 60K, has it had a rebuild yet ?", I'd expect to see more yes's than no's.

Probably wrong though smile

Even at 60k The engine runs sweet as a nut and uses hardly any oil! Its good oodles of time left in it.

Well I've had several offers of 9k already. I've got a couple of viewings booked for tues nigh and weds so we will see.

If it doesn't sell I'm not too bothered really ill just get it mot'd and resell then. I know its a sound car so someone will get a bargain if that's what they are looking for.
