re-spray advice

my car ejected a targa roof panel recently and its badly scratched the paintwork, i have a few options, pay £500+ for a litre (spectraflair silver)and have the roof re-sprayed, pay for three litres and get the whole car re-sprayed as i have stonechips up front.

finally iv been thinking about a re-spray in a completely different colour,(that wont cost £1500 on paint alone)

has anyone gone down the route of a change of colour and are there any potential downsides to doing it? ie resale value.

I would not change the colour of the car if you are worried about re-sale. If I was a buyer it would put me off totally.

A colour change done properly and well will be expensive - budget around 4-5k unless you want something with expensive paint too....

If the colour of the car is changed on the log book, its less obvious that the change has been made. Would it put me off?

If done well, I liked the colour and it complemented the interior, no. Resale - same probably applies at the age the car is.

Personally a respray would not put me off but again it depends on the colour that you respray too. Your existing colour is quite unique and I suspect would help to increase its value.

If they are carbon panels, can't you get he paint stripped off to match your nice carbon centre console and your anthracite wheels?

the insides are bare carbon which is fine and matches the interior but iv seen a couple with no paint on the roof and it looks fine on a dark car, on a bright colour like silver its a bit too patchwork like for me.

You could go for a nice boring shade of black, grey or blue and look like a German car. Or you could keep the spangley super duper paint style you currently have. Easy decision IMO. Its worth the cost. This is a TVR, not a porkster.

I'm sure it will be cheaper to respray the car in spectra flair even with the paint cost than doing a full colour change properly.

Graham,
your car is obviously your love or you would have traded it ages ago. If it were me I would get it sprayed/ partially sprayed in the same colour and sort out a retrim to do justice to the rest of your now stunning motor.
Youve gone a long way with that car whats another few yards to make up the magic mile!

I am presently looking at getting a sag which requires a degree of cosmetic. One of the things im looking at is a possible full respray original colour. Dealers are talking upto 3k ish. Cosmetic touch up of whole car sounds like being maybe 1 to 1 and a half k so a roof panel should cost a fair bit less except for the expensive spectraflair paint.

Speak to the guys at tvr power.

Sorry to hear about the roof panel mate.
Mine ejected on the M1 at errr warp 7, so I know what a pain it was to get sorted.
