I'm sure it will loose a hunk of wonga in three years time with double the clicks on it's clock, but my, it sure does appear great value....... oh and it looks almost nice in that color.
very very tempted.
Am I alone on this one?

Once the Eagle comes out though, the prices will plummet further. I'm waiting until the 17-18k mark.
I'm not so sure about that. The Eagle and the Europa are different cars, the Eagle (apparently) being a 2+2 which the Europa certainly isnt. I get the feeling that the Europa is beginning to find a market, it isnt the GT market its sitting between those who have maybe had Elise's and grown up a bit and then don't want to drive around in a cartoon all day (Exige - amazing car, but just too cartoonish for some). The Europa sits in there. As for the Eagle itself, 1. I'll believe when I see it and not before, 2. its going to be much more expensive, 3. if is is expensive I fear it will sink against things like the GTR, new Porsche 2+2 etc. It doesnt matter how good the Eagle is, in that market Lotus will be stuffed by better promotion from the bigger players.
To try to guess what will happen to Europa prices is a difficult one, they are so rare and there are not many about. If production stops when the Eagle starts I can see prices hardening when the available owners decide to keep them. But guess we'll see.
For my money the Europa is the best looking car in the Lotus fleet. The Elise is looking old and a bit dull, and the S2 was never as good looking as the S1. The Exige looks fantastic but too much for me day to day. The Europa looks better each time I see it, and having driven it I really don't get what the dynamic criticisms were...
Ooooh. That is indeed a steal. The GT pack lifts em no end in my very humble opinion. Biggest problem with the exige for me is the ground clearance. There are loads of other reasons why a europa might be suitable for me rather than the exige.
Even once you've knoked him down a bit and got some new wheels and boots (with geo) from thorney and a new interior from lotus, that's still hardly any more than 22K.
That is/would be a fine lotus for 22K in my opinion. I wish I had the wonga (i'm glad it's not black or i'd be heart broken and putting my soul on e-bay).
Anyway, good luck!!

I too am beginning to like the Europa. A guy from Lotus came up to
JCT Leeds (forgot his name) he came to listen to my engine in the Elise,
anyway he said he had had a big part in the development of the Europa.
He had come up to Yorkshire in a silver one.
Pointing over to his car he said with a slight tune and a tweak to the
suspension it would leave an Exige on the road or track.

I'm not sure it'd leave a Exige S "Reasonably Easy". I'm a bit quicker than an Exige S (Depends who's driving) in my N/A Honda'd S2. When I've come across Europa's on track, std or Thorney modified ones they are really not in the same league and a fair amount slower.
Would i have one though, yes, I think they're lovely

To be fair the main advantage my Europa had was the big brake kit and adjustable suspension... thinking about it that was the main advantage. Power wise it would pull away from an exige S.
As you've said though drivers ability makes a huge difference.... and whether the car suits a drivers style. Either way a Thorny Europa is very capable, but it needs the brakes and suspension to fully utilise it.

I really like these but for some reason I feel like I shouldn't. What's that all about?

Because people on here and in the press have spent so much time slagging it because it wasn't what they wanted it to be. And because that it missed greatness by a very narrow margin that could only be be fixed with expensive modifications many of which would have cost little if the car was specified that way in the first place. Concequently, the cars are too expensive for what they are (as standard) and have stuck to showroom floors like superglue and depreciate fast. What is more, you probably agree to a certain extent with alot of the negative comments made. Cheers,
FT.
