Hello

do you know what?

One of my passions is to find excellent rock/metal bands with an electric or accustic cello / violin / viola .. in their line-up

Most of you will know Apocalyptica from Finland by name because of their * 4 Celli meet Metalica* debut album (which is not a quality album b.t.w.), but here are many more bands out there.

Please let me introduce just a few bands which you should know if you're open-minded accepting stringed instruments in the holy rock/metal music scene dominated by guitars, bass, keys and drums

Perhaps not as heavily influenced as the bands you name, but to me, the classic 'Doom Metal mixed with violins etc' album of all time has to be Celestial Season's Solar Lovers. If you can find a copy, then get it, you won't be disappointed (oh, and i think i have a spare copy hidden away somehwere too smile )

Also, Therion used to mix it up quite a bit with orchestras and opera singers etc - check out their Vovin album.

Sort of metal-ish and an electric violin but have you heard Ed Alleyne Johnson?

You'd enjoy String Quartet Tribute they do orchestral versions of loads of modern songs, for example Seven Nation Army,Wonderwall...

He was busking a while ago in Chester. Stopped and watched him play for over an hour, and bought his album. I think I'd struggle to name another person who was enthusiastic and passionate about their hobby/job.

Great guy, sounds fecking ACE too.

I *love* the sound of the Cello in an unusual setting.

Although not /strictly/ complying with your context, may I suggest:

Rasputina

Darlingheart (only ever made one CD in the early nineties, but well worth the trouble of tracking down)

and

Zoë Keating (ex Rasputina, but now making very interesting sounds alone using just the Cello).

My 1st encounter with this guy must have been 15+ years ago, whilst on a school trip to Alton Towers. He worked/was busking there.. I remember being quite transfixed and stood there listening and watching for quite some time. Im surprised he never became more popular. Or even the electric violin itself never became more popular. Really sounds amazing smile
Side note, electric double basses also sound quite impressive.

P,
I've got hold of the Purple Violin Concerto - what an absolutely fantastic piece of work!

Stuck it on the iPod, cranked up the volume whilst stuck in traffic on the way into work this morning, and it just made the world disappear around me.

Absolutely beautiful.
