I have a friend in Italy who "rock crawls" his Range Rover.

Due to the size of the wheels the standard power steering sometimes can't cope, if the wheels get wedged.

He's heard about some sort of power steering hydraulic "helper" cylinder which gives extra help to the steering on demand.

I've searched PH and done some Googling but I don't know what I should be looking for.

Can anybody tell me what I should stick in Google, or maybe a link to a firm that supplies/manufactures the item... if it exists!

Thanks all.

Go to an american breakers yard and get a power steering ram off a Mustang.
Make some brackets to mount it onto the drag link and then pipe it up to an auxiliary pas pump. You could use an electric one.
Used to do this all the time to series land Rovers to give them PAS.

You could do this for about £100 about 5 yrs ago

Hope this helps

Thanks for that. It seems exactly what he wants.

As for the customer service, I've found out why there have been problems and the explanation seems reasonable so I think I'll take a chance.

Thanks again all.

I'm inclined to agree but felt it was your decision to make.

Hmmm. I've been in contact and the rams are out of stock. I can't seem to get an update on the situation, so is there anyone else in the UK that does the same sort of kit?
