Chaps,

Treated myself to a Canon 400D for Christmas, so enjoying learning all about it, along with the great pics and advice on here.

Was planning to buy a UV filter for the standard kit lens that I've got and wondered if this was the sort of filter I should be looking at?

Cheers!

I'd spend a little bit more and get this one (Hoya Pro).

The glass in the cheaper ones isn't as good. Quite thick in comparison. For under a tenner more, I'd buy a quality product first time and not have to buy again later.

My 2p.

If its a canon you have, i recommend grabbing yourself the latest Canon Brochure. It will tell you exactly what is compatible with what, and the sizes etc in the back. Handy to have.

fark why bother with a filter for protectionthats gona cost as much as the lens?

And do nothing but possibly degrade the IQ too. No thanks not for me. At least not on that lens.
