I've been offered the possibility of one of my images being used on a postcard to be sold by a gift shop in an art gallery, I'll be paid for the use of the image but I want some form of protection against them using the image for any other purpose. Do any of you lot have some standard text that you use when offering an image to a commercial client limiting its use?

Cheers.

A very useful document ... but it only covers the rights of a photographer to take photographs rather than the rights assigned to an image I'm selling.

Thanks anyway.

Anyone else got any advice for me on this? I'm going to need to present the customer with the image at some point next week and would like to have something in place to stop them using it for anything other than postcards.

Just draft a "limited release" document stating that you are selling them the use of the image for the defined purpose and only that. Then a couple of counter signatures and a copy to either party should do the rest if they try and wangle it into some other merchandise...

You can find a whack of standard documents at the following link relating to businesses utlising images from staff and third party contributors - just to give you more of an insight into it and more ideas on how you are going to tackle it yourself:-
