he has a 2005 EJ20 and cannot decide between:

PPP
TSL333
Powerstation
Roger Clark

I am erring him towards Roger Clark, but anyone have any opinions, I am sure you do!?

If you're willing to consider TSL333 - Powerstation - Roger Clark, i would forget PPP as being the poor relation and they charge £1600 for the pleasure. For the same money you can have much better:

TSL 333 Brilliant (BTW they have all their engine mapping done by Paul @ Zen Performance, and Zen should be somewhere near the top, if not at the top of your list!!) I have had work done on my car by TSL and Zen so my recommend would be to go for the slip jointed exhaust system with high flow cat, high flow panel air filter and high spec fuel pump by TSL, then go to Zen direct to map it. Do it like that and it will work out cheaper than having it all done by just one tuner.

Powerstation (They play with Spec C's and do all the mapping and engine/car mods for the Type25 from Litchfield) Awesome bunch!! Type25 cloud9

Roger Clarke have been rallying Scoobys for a good long time so they know exactly what they are doing. They are to motorsport what bread and butter (Lurpak of course) is to essential eating!!

Same for TSL, as they rally prep Scooby and Evo's so it a bit of a tough one as they are all fantastically good, but my first recommend would be the TSL/Zen route.

Done a few TSL 333 conversions, and they do.. 333bhp..

Its a nice conversion.

You won't go wrong with any of those to be honest, the ppp is just an very expensive option (and no where near as powerfull as the other options)

OK so I am chippy's mate with the sti (long time reader first time user!).

Yes I agree that the PPP kit is the most expensive for what you get - £2000 actually on an MYO5, but it does help resale / after market value so thats why it was considered.

I also agree that its not worth going for.

I have spoken to : Roger Clarke Motorsport, RC Developments, TSL, Power station and ZEN. There are many ways to skin this cat and this is why I am confused. I have a budget up to £3000 and want to include a small brake upgrade (pads, hoses and fluids - sounds like a good saturday night!) so who to choose?

My thoughts so far:

Power Station (type 25) offer a £1400 conversion but very little work for this and the engine upgrades for their big stuff are all done by cossie.

RCM have a really good heritage but feel that there is a potential problem with all EJ20 engines that go over 300 bhp that under heavy load at speed in upper gears you can over heat the engine and due to the tight bore there is a chance of piston / bore damage. The way round this is £5000 worth of work and this is getting silly!

TSL claim they have rally heritage but only ran one year?? Is this the case?? And so far have not entered the classic showcase of Time Attack

RC Developments seem to be heavily into mitsu's but asked all the right questions

And ZEN seem sooooo confident in their mapping skills that they can avoid the problems of overheat and piston damage without upgrading the ECU and state that you can run any fuel at full whack, which no-one else suggests.

SO WHAT TO DO?

Does anyone run a package from these guys and have they had any problems and do you really need to change the ECU and front mount the inter-cooler to avoid hot inflow air damage at load at speed if only running about 330 HP?

I have found a website for Autosportif in bicester who only prepare rally cars are these guys any good, I ask because a rally heritage is surely a founding in experience?

Cheers for the help if you can be bothered to read all this!!

You do not need a front mount for 330bhp.

For 330bhp all you need is a decent decat or sports cat exhaust, panel filter, and a proper remap on the standard ECU. Hell, the standard ecu can run 500 if asked.

I know of Sti 8's running 400bhp with just an uprated top mount.

Thanks Vixpy

I used to run a blueprinted group N 309 Gti prepared by skip brown cars and it was bomb proof! So i guess i was trying to make sure I don't chip and tune and then blow.

You have obviously tested the 333 kit and value for money its £2000 so is really good. Have you driven one and do you know what the power delivery is like?

this kit is tempting as they claim 333lbs ft as well and to be honest if zen do the mapping this is looking better anbd better but what is the future potential of this kit? If you or anyone else knows?

Thanks guys

I've got the TSL GrpN backbox and it sounds deep and throbby, then i got the Zen slip jointed decat uppipe and that made an instant difference to the way the Turbo spools up. When i have some more pennies i will get the rest of the TSL exhaust system and wallbro fuel pump and pressure regulator. It's only a WRX wagon yet i should see about 280 - 300FWbhp with standard intercooler.

333/333 with the STi internals that i believe are forged and standard STi externals should be a piece of very reliable p1ss!! I wouldn't sweat it and just get it done!!

As for brakes.....Goodridge SS braided hoses are good, and i hear performance friction Rotors/pad combination are pretty awesome!! If you are just going for pads i recommend EBC YellowStuff. Cracking pads that get better with more abuse!! Excellent!!

Having asked around recently (As the 22b's being modded at the moment) Bob Rawle is the man most people trust beyond anyone else.

www.brdevelopments.com

Other than that, RC *really* know their stuff but can wander into weapons grade upgrades very quickly.

Stick with less than 350/350 and you should be fine.

And to prove a point, the T25 runs 415hp on the standard intercoolersmile
