I'm renovating a house and needed something to transport rubbish to the tip, and building materials to the house including 8x4 sheets of plasterboard, a van was out as they charge you for tipping, also needed some economical transport, so I combined the two! My Volvo 940s 2.4TD biggrin

150,000 miles with full volvo service history, I found it round the back of a dealer who'd forgotten they had it!! £500 for the car then £120 for a new alternator, I fitted a cambelt and serviced it, i've done nearly 4000miles in it without a problem(except some unfilterd veg oil, but that was my fault)

124BHP of VW LT turbo diesel!! 6 cylinders, loads of torque and returns 40mpg, and it runs on a diet of derv mixed with free waste veg oil from the local pub, giving an equivalent return of 80-120mpg compared to straight diesel, with an in line heater it'll go on to 100% veg oil in the summerbiggrin

A mate has a 940 and loves it.

More importantly, who owns the scrummy looking 164?

only on ice!! Its a heavy old lump and a bit slow off the mark, it tramps on though and is great on the motorway. I've already shifted a double bed and some 8'x4' ply sheets in it!!

Once you've had an Ovlov there's no going back, I love these old buses. I keep looking at 850 & 960 estates with great temptation.

I've had a few, and yes I do love them, started with a 244dl saloon, followed by a 265GLE that was messed with (240Turbo LSD axle and front suspension late 760 2.9 engie and 4spd autobox)that was a real sleeper, upset no end of XR3I traffic light GP heroes in that!, then a late 240GLT estate(wifes) a 760 2.9 estate and a 960 24v estate(the joys of running a salvage/breakers yard) then I aquired an 1800ES that had been laid up for ten years.... that was plain odd, looked sporty, with a sporty driving position but still drove like a 240!
Ex Wife now has an 850 estate.

the 164 is a '90 twinspark thats had a lousy respray, no real rot all the electrics work!! except the level sensors under the bonnet (it thinks it needs oil, water and brake fluid) Its got black leather (stitching has failed on one seam on the drivers seat). It goes well for a big old barge and is a hoot through the bends, these 164s are like giant go karts through the twisties!!biglaugh

Heeeeyyyy well done on buying a proper barge

Good fun the old Vulvas are too

I had a 240GLT saloon (242) and when it flicked its tail out, it loved to keep it hanging...only problem was the shagged gearbox and the sheer amount of axle tramp when you nailed it from a standstill

Drove a 2.3 940 Turbo manual in the past and what a laugh that thing was. It used to absolutely enfuriate the local neddy chavs as it would leave them dead at the lights hehe

I had a 3 litre a few years back, I scrounged some shorter springs from work (Alfa specialist) and a home made exhaust, it was an absolute hoot, I loved it!!
