The odometer in my (ok, my father's) 94 chimaera has a sticky odometer. The speedo still works, but the mileage stays the same. Occasionally it'll start again for a mile or so but then it stops.

I have heard that I will need a new speedo and odometer. Any idea where I might get one?

Very common problem. You could send the unit back to speedy cables for repair. This is a worrying problem with these cars as the true mileage is effectively an unknown.

My 97 450 had the same problem, speedo currently with speedy cables for repair. They tell me they wil repair the odo and recalibrate all for about £80 . You will be able to use an extensive set of swear words while removing the dasho to get the speedo out... oh and FYI, 5 week turn around time at speedy cables right now :-(

94 may well be an ETB dial, ETB don't offer quite the same speed service as 'speedy' from past reports hehe

http://www.etbinstruments.com/ETB_Range.htm still looks alive?

Dave
ETA: I hadn't seen it for ages, but the FAQ
http://www.etbinstruments.com/FAQ_Gauges.htm
is actually essential reading for those of you with early instruments ~ if you have bad readings it pretty much explains about mis-matched sensors...

Are there any after market devices that could be used to keep track of speed and mileage in place of having a fully functional TVR odometer? Something that could be used until I get the thing out and repaired.

if you are desperate and don't have a sat nav, then you could use a pushbike LCD speedo for about 10 or 20 quid. quite a few kitcar builders use them, and they are quite easy to install. I believe you have a calibration sheet with them to enable you to input the circumference of your tyre. They use a stick on magnet and sensor to register wheel revolutions and hence speed/miles.

A satnav or road angel should do the job nicely. I'll see how desperate things get though smile

You lucky sod chap !! Mine must be on its return journey then wink !!

I must admit I phoned Speedy Cables once and told them I needed a new speedo cable pronto as I was going to take another car on holiday in just a few days time. They turned it around by return of post at no extra charge.

Good chaps to deal with me thinks biggrin
