My back tyres need replacing and was wondering whether anyone else out there was running 888's on the rear and T1R's on the front.Or is it a recipe for disaster? Fronts have loads of tread left so if its a bad idea I'll just get some more T1R's.

SO3s at front, T1-Rs at back. Nightmare! Squirms like a bitch on heat, tramlines like... well, a tram!
Unfortunately SO3s have a lot of tread left otherwise I'd get the same all round.

You've been warned!

I have S03s front and T1-Rs rear and have exactly the same problem. The ride is awful and it seems to fidget constantly. It's so bad, it makes Mrs JSR feel sick whenever we go for a drive!

Thankfully, the S03s are pretty much worn down. Will be fitting 17" wheels and T1-Rs all round in the next few weeks smile

I would imagine mixing T1-Rs and 888s would be a very bad idea, due to the significant difference in performance - there would always be one end that would be working much worse than the other in any condition.

Why don't you just spend the £200 and enjoy your car?

I ran 888s on the front and T1Rs on the rear quite happily for a year. Great turn in wink

I'm waiting for the new (in Europe) R1R which is a compromise between T1R and 888. R888 with better wet performance. SOunds great to me!!

I thought it pretty fair comment to be honest. You describe your car as a "nightmare". I thought the solution was pretty clear and just wondered why you hadn't bought a pair of new tyres instead of suffering this potentially dangerous nightmare for the next year or so?

No need to get tetchy mate.

I've got T1-R's on my road rims and R888 on my old rims for TD's and they are awesome thumbup
I think for a daily drive you'll get annoyed with the road noise and slightly brown trouser moments every time you see standing water with the 888's, other than that they're in a different league to normal road tyres.

Don't do it, plain and simple.

Two very different tyres with vastly different characteristics. Get a matching set, it is worth it.

It's the same with having Toyo T1S's on one axle and T1R's on another - don't do it. It makes for unpredictable handling, not something that's advised for quick cars.

Running R888 on the front, and SO3 on the back at the moment, and have no problems, but I note that it is not easy to get heat/go full chat in current climate. The back end can be twitchy, but on damp roads that won't be news to anyone. The plan is to go to R888 on the rear too, as as soon as, but am waiting for 245 to come out (or are they out now?) Andy Race thought January - any news anyone?

Well I did do it on my Griff (T1S + T1R) and had to be patient whilst I found the tyre pressures that suited me best. I settled on 25F and 29R. Having spoken at length to TOYO UK, they said I would not have a problem mixing the two tyre types, but suggested that if the tyres were standard TOYO production types, that I should expect to have to run higher tyre pressures that with the original BRIDGESTONE Expedia S02 tyres, because of the softer TOYO sidewalls. The other thing the TOYO guy told me was that the standard production TOYO T1S and T1R tyres had a "single layer sidewall", whereas those TOYO tyres marked with the TVR logo were produced to meet TVR special requirements and were manufactured with a "double layer sidewall", making them stiffer through corners and also requiring lower air pressure than the standard TOYO tyre types. I apologise for the long-winded reply but thought that this information may be interesting for some TVR owners and also account for the dramatic differences you read about drivers' experiences of TOYO tyres?
