Well, she's back & I've really missed her! frown Just had a blinding day using & abusing her! drivingsmile

Here's some pics of the finished conversion.

Many thanks to Ian at 'Sportmotive' for being such a perfectionist and providing all the advice, time & effort to achieve such a fantastic end result. The conversion is as good as I could have hoped for. thumbup
The front-end respray is perfect. Only trouble now is that I find I'm hanging back a lot further from the cars in front and starting to pull out a lot earlier!!

Thanks too to Argoose for posting up the pics of his conversion & showing what was achievable!beer
Cheers,
Mick

I must say that does look nice and gives it a more up to date modern look yes...but what would worry me is the effect on resale values? I know the original lights aren't the greatest candles in the world and can be improved with upgraded bulbs e.t.c. and there are some who would say that the original look is what makes the Chimaera what it is. I guess it's all a matter of personal taste.

Yes, that did cross my mind but I will probably keep her for a while now anyway. The values will probably carry on going down for a while, so it only really becomes an issue if Chimaeras are ever regarded as a classic (in the monetary sense) with subsequent capital appreciation.
I personally don't think that will happen, certainly not to a great extent anyway (any idea what the very first TVRs are worth now?).
Mind you, if it ever did, Ian gave me the original fittings and with his skill, I'm sure he could put them back!
Cheers,
Mick smile

Wonderful looking paint job - Know what you mean about protecting it (mine's Armourfended!) But for me the jury's still on thr lights. Really great as they are I just like things looking as they were originally designed to be and looking as they were when they came out of the factory... Nick.

Yep Nick, fair point. I think my problem is that I've had too many MGBs in the past and I just couldn't get that out of my mind every time I looked at the lights. I don't really want retro - if I did, I'd have bought a Morgan. I love the rest of the car, it was just the lights...........scratchchin
Hope to see you at the next H&B meeting now she's back.smile

Hi Mick

Having just upgraded my rear light clusters I would also be interested in this conversion. Could you e-mail me details of cost as well please.

Thanks

I am normally a leave it as the company intended with subtle mods like levan bits person. In this case I think your car looks completely awesome. I dont think retail value would be affected in anyway. Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

Absolutely gorgeous. This is a definite on my list if i keep the car for another few years.. I dont see why this would affect the resale value. If i were to go out and buy another now i would be looking for as many properly done mods as possible. I get a lot of stick from my other half (Lotus owner) about the MG look.

Must admit I quite like the look. I’ve also seen a DB7 light conversion, but can’t find any of my photos. Still, I took these back in April 2005….

I saw your car in the booth when I dropped my Griff off. It looks fantastic. Just don't tell the Griff boys I said that! Ian did full paint on my car 2 years ago and it still looks mint. Top guy, top job.
