A cautionary tale for those that smoke in their company car – a friend of mine that was recently caught up in a traffic jam caused by a road traffic accident decided to have a cigarette whilst waiting patiently for the accident to be cleared, he was aware of a police car in a similar situation to himself nearby but thought nothing of smoking as the car was stationary with the engine off, it did not stop those police officers issuing him a £60 fine for smoking ‘on company premises’, they did ask initially if this was his car (as they do) but never imagined where their questioning was going to lead to.

I no longer smoke but never thought you could be done as such sitting in what would appear to be an ordinary car, I know you could not in a van for instance

If you have a plumber round your house to fix a leaking tap and youm have a cigarette you too are breaking the law, even though it's your own house, because it is the plumbers place of work.eek

Not yet. You still have the right to smoke in your own home.
