Taking off bonnet badge

Hi all
I want to take off the bonnet badge, to have it refurbed.
Any advice how to get a hand or hands to the back of the badge, without having to take off the bonnet?

You can do it with the bonnet on just!!

I disconnected the battery and then managed to rest on the battery and reach in with a small rachet. Very uncomfortable, but possible.

Be careful removing the badge, the threaded studs will come detached from the badge very easily, I even found new ones come apart easily.

drive front wheels on to 2 bits of wood and and you can angle the bonnet higher just make sure your hinges are okay and nothing fouls

Jack the front of the car up and get it securely on axle stands. You can now carefully open the bonnet even to the point where the bonnet is vertical. This is also very usefull when your working on the engine it gives you great access. You can tie the bonnet off i tie it to one of the wooden roof supports in my garage.

Thanks, with the car on axle stands. how far will the bonnet go forward?, also will there be a strain on the light loom?

Mine more or less goes vertical. Just slowly lift the bonnet back keeping an eye on the wiring for the lights and also the air intake hoses. Once you reach what you think is a safe limit either support the front of the bonnet or tie it off.

I think that when the bonnet is about vertical, the "skirt" trailing edge will be resting on the chassis just below the radiator on either side...
here:




be careful as thats a lot of weight being taken by a thin section of fibreglass. if a gust of wind caught it like that you could be in trouble...
