Just seen the BiB out speed trapping today on the local 50mph limit DC. He was holding something that looked just like a camcorder, same kind of size and held right up to his eye.

Never seen this before - only the old hairdryer style ones (eg, held at arms length).

New type of trap?

They are the new Prolasers and are so easy to use. Gone are the days of carrying large battery packs around with a long lead leading to the laser....now they have built in battery packs and are the same weight as an SLR camera.

Much better than a Talivan i fear!

Well the poor sap they'd pulled over was getting a grilling, so the thing obviously works!

Will it never end?

How come the messege isn't getting through?

MILLIONS caught speeding, TEENY little decline in number of accidents.

NOT THE PROBLEM! MOVE ON!

THE crucial point missed... :

MILLIONS earned in revenue for the Government

Puts a hefty skew on the results I expect...

Just out of interest, can you register a car to a P.O. Box...?

Never mind all of that I thought laser devices couldn't be used unless they were on tripods?

The good old Kustom ProLaser, exposed in South Africa as having a serious defect that is easily exploited by the unscrupulous.

In the last 10years ive only heard of one person getting off at Court on a speeding charge (not one of mine i hasten to add).

When you think about it.....thats not a bad ratio is it.?

Seriously though...if someone was to be found not guilty at Court due to the way that a Laser,Muniquip or Police Pilot/Vascar is used then everyone would have a right of appeal, the system would collapse and there would be millions in lost revenue for the Government.

What do you think of the chances of that happening?

There have numerous instances of defendants successfully defeating speeding charges in court. These usually involve technicalities with calibration or compliance with Type Approval conditions. However as most of these have been won in the Magistrates' Courts no precedent has been set.

None at all. More chance of an MP telling the truth.

It's a pity that catching "real" criminals isn't as easy as shooting fishes in a barrel.

P.S. by "real" criminals, I mean burglaries, car theft and so on where the clear-up rate is not exactly good (and, of course, very little or no money can be "earned".

Its basically the same as the 'old one'.It sends Laser signals out at a target and to get a locked on reading it must have received an identical test signal in return.

The main difference is it has its own battery pack and as with all technology....its more compact and user friendly.
