In this article the Standard says that allowing bikes in bus lanes in London would be a bad precedent for the rest of the country, I thought bikes were allowed in bus lanes in other places.

On one of my routes to work - bikes can go in one buslane, then not the next, then they can go in the next, then not the next etc etc. It is ridiculous.

Since doing my bike safe, and someone hitting me when I was hugging the white line between bus lane and the first normal lane - I now ride in the middle of any buslane - anywhere! Treat it as if it is a normal empty road (all be it with people cutting into the lane at any left turn...).

I am sure I will end up getting fined eventually - but I would rather take a fine (there are no points awarded for this crime against humanity), be safer, and get to/from work quicker.

I have gone past so many police cars and bikes when in bus lanes that I think they are using their commonsense to have ignored me.

Covering up proof that would mean having to open up London bus lanes to all motorcycles to win votes just takes the biscuit as far as I'm concerned.
The trial has more than showed the added road safety benefits yet its buried to try and win another term as mayor.
I've personally emailed Boris via his campaign website about this very story to see what comments he has on it.

There are a couple of bus lanes I have to ride in and risk getting fined everyday because its far safer than filtering along the wide white line with stationary traffic right next to you.

I rode down the M4 bus lane a couple of weeks ago at 8am on Monday morning. The traffic was stationary as I rode passed - excellent idea. Every Mway should have a bus/bike/taxi lane hehe
I wish my normal commute down the M40 had one!

You seemed to be able to ride on most of the ones in Reading (if the bike sign was there). To be honest while it was a boon in terms of cutting through the traffic you took your life in your hands with traffic cutting across to turn left without looking (Bath Road in to Reading).

I (after several fines) now know which have cameras and always ride in those that don't. The Police see me regularly in them and have no problem with it.

What amazes me are the bikes who tip-toe on the edge of the white line and panic if they go over it into the bus lane. It's the safest place to be. Just be careful at crossings and left hand junctions because nobody is expecting you to be there.

I hadn't realised that it was a mess outside of London too.

I commute through SE london and blatantly use bus lanes all the time, no fines yet and police have better things to do than sit in stationary traffic! I spoke to a fellow rider who said Lambeth Borough was the only place he had received a fine.

Never had a fine, but cars don't expect you there, so I ride in 1st gear to make sure they hear me coming. Other than that - no problems...

This topic has popped up in SP&L

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

I'm trying to encourage folks to write to CTC getting them to clarify their position and explain why they support a policy that results in more death and injury to cyclists.

They have a contact us page at:

http://www.lcc.org.uk/index.asp?Pageid=10

More will probably be achieved by keeping it civil, even though it is tough against such piss boiling propaganda this group emits ranting
