I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is about which is the better of the below two photos.

1.

2.

Can't decide whether #2 has a bit more 'life' or whether the seagull is just a distraction. I'm spending far too much time wondering about this...

Sorry, but I think think there's way too much sky and sea in the shot...

PS - the bird makes the shot now smile

I'm with Martin on this one, too much sky/sea, would have made a great 'landscape' shot, as to the seagull, its just the icing to the cake smile

I think the gull is fine. The colour cast to me is the major problem here more than anything else.

seagul stays, his name is Timmy the gul and he would like to remain part of your picture. I however should stop drinking.

Keep the bird. Nice colours. Great composition.

No 2, as-is.

Number one, exactly as it is.

As someone said above, the bird is just a distraction.

Depends?

As an image I'll take #2 with a bit of sea croped out.

As a sales prospect I'd take #1 , again croped a little, no bird = more space for text and logo's....

So would some of you prefer this crop?

3.

The reason I liked the original vertical crops is because of the 'tranquillity' of the scene - and I think the abundance of sky and sea is important to achieve that.

I wasn't sure whether the seagull added another dimension or spoiled the tranquillity. Personally, I think I'm slightly more in favour of no gull and vertical crop.

It may sound a bit stupid but the lighthouse is almost incidental.

Do I sound like some arty tw@t about to disappear up his own backside?! Please administer a slapping if I do!

Here are a couple more from the same shoot:

I think of the two orignal shots, i prefer without.
- However the gull works ok in the close croped image.

You now going to ask if prefer the close croped image, or the oringal without the gull. But i like both.
