Diff throwing oil

My (99 4.5) diff has leaked from the prop input area for some time (a little oil on the exhaust) but recently it has got a lot worse.
Is there a breather on the diff? I saw a note somewhere about a breather modification? what was this
about and has anyone experienced the same problem
I am thinking of dropping the diff to have a look?

Don't assume it's the breather , it may be the pinion seal which can fail with catastrophic consequences , I speak from bitter experience

Look at it soonest.

Take the off side rear wheel off to access the nipple, put on an elbow and then some pipe on it facing upwards, so that any pewked oil can drain back. Mines completely cured. It used to cover everything including the back of the car.
