Well, after my lucky escape the other week you might say I should be more careful BUT before you do.....

On a fast two lane dual carriageway (NSL) at night. I'm sat with 80mph on the clock (in the Skoda so I don't know how acccurate it is). No other traffic about either in front or behind. I then see a car catching me from behind and don't think much of it. He pulls out and starts to pass me. As he pulls alongside I see the reflective strips on the side and think "Oh Sh*t - not again" only for him to go sailing past into the distance.

I assumed he had another job to go to (but no blues etc) but slowed down to 70 at this point just in case he decided to stop further up and get the speed gun out.

It was quite spooky as I had just been contemplating the white markings used for VASCAR and thinking if a trafpol gets behind me now I'm stuffed as I wont be able to see the roof lights until they come on.

Back in Feb of this year I was followed for 8-10 minutes by a marked car (it was dark) whilst I varied my speed on a fairly empty m4 bewteen 80 and 85, after this time he pulled along side and ahead of me to show me who he was and departed fairly quickly.

I have past talivans whilst doing a similar speed on the m4 on numerous occasions, and have passed parked up Traffic cars on the side of the motorway at the same sort of speed.

I have the theory (which will no doubt be proved wrong the next time I do it ) that they are not really interested unless you are going over 85.

I have yet to have a ticket, NIP, be stopped or any interest taken in me or my driving whilst doing these speeds. I do not know of anyone recieving a NIP for doing less than 86, and have not heard of anyone being stopped for less on a motorway.

I might just be lucky or my indicated speed is well down (in each of the 3 cars I tend to drive in a typical month), but its a theory and it seems to be working for me....... We'll see

Followed a marked police car along the M60 @ 90+ once, he had no flashing lights or siren so wasn't off to an incident........He eventually slowed (so did I) then pulled me and asked me what speed I was doing......I said that I was doing the same as him 70.....he called me a cheeky git and told me to get lost !!!
As far as I am aware, when not on emergeny business, all emergency services should obey the speed limit for the road..........

Excellent stuff, Paul but you surely know the news round here now?

Total liberalisation of speed enforcement by GMP panda squads!

Obviously, you can't go totally loonerschleife but you'd really have to be cracking way over 90 and hogging the middle lane to be piano wired.

It's great because I'm not driving any crazier just concentrating a Goddam sight more on the bellenders who somehow possess a driving licence!

The difference is he could have done you for 90 as you were committing an offence, not him!

BIB can exceed the limit - even if they are not on a job.

Don't forget they don't need to switch on the "blues & twos" if they don't want to - if he was on a job he probably wouldn't have pulled you over though as it would just have wasted time in getting to the incident.

I like to give the coffee beans to the camera vans, stationary or moving. Haven't been stopped yet...
