all 5 kids dead after testing out the car on a private runway at night.

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=111454

Link to Josh asking how he can change from 4th to 5th smoother, very morbid reading his posts and then the posts of others when they realize hes killed himself after advising him how to do it.

Josh said:
I do sometimes make bad decisions but I am young and I do drive safe and I will not endanger the lives of others..and I hope you are not under the impression that I am the one to brag, I have never been that way and never will. Plus I will have pictures up asap with me in the pictures. I have no reason to lie buddy.
  • **ing hell, RIP kids, let that be a warning to us all, those of us about to drive, and those of us giving people advice on how to drive over the internet. I'm not saying its wrong, but think a bit.

This is a good illustration of the dynamics of the crash.

Supposedly, John Travolta has used this airstrip for his planes.

It's a wide, long runway. Long enough to handle John Travolta's personal Boeing 707 (although that's in court right now). But apparently the tarmac is in poor condition. See below.

The following is from a site that provides information on airports across the US:

Dimensions: 7550 x 210 ft. / 2301 x 64 m
Surface: asphalt, in poor condition
DETERIORATED WITH POT HOLES AND SEVERE CRACKING.
1 ASPH SFC IS ONLY 2.75 INCHES THICK. HEAVIER ACFT MAY CAUSE IMMEDIATE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE DEERIORATED SURFACE AND MAY GENERATE FOD.
RY 18/36 NOT CROWNED OR GRVD CAUSING STANDING WATER DURING AND AFTER RAIN.

No doubt the poor condition of the runway was a contributing factor in the crash.

Here's an actual photo of the runway.

Cheers,
Madman of the People

You mean rather than the combination of a recklessly stupid 18 year old driving way beyond his ability in unknown conditions......rolleyes

An 18 year old in an M5...WTF....hope his parents are happy with giving their dumb kid such an expensive tool to kill his buddies and himself with.....unbelievable.

I couldn't work out exactly what he did.

We PHers regularly go to airfields like Bruntingthorpe to max out our cars. I've done it (although I didn't achieve the theoretical Vmax). Sure - I wouldn't sneak onto Bruntingthorpe in the middle of the night - but -

there but for the grace of God?

VMax attempt with insufficient braking space?

try reading the forum that the op ( BMW M5 ) posted on asking on advise how to spank the car to its vmax

was told by other M5 owners to be cautious and get a few years driving ability first.

would you let your inexpoerienced son drive your 500 bhp M5 .....

i think not ,
no sympathy

What i would do is irrelevent, the facts are that several people made an error of judgement and 5 kids died because of it and those that remain get a life sentance, If you dont have any sympathy for them then presumably they got what they deserved.

Using their wealth as justifacation really helps prove your point, Trial by bank balance, found guilty by poor judge me thinks. At least you wont go hungry with that big chip your carrying.

Have a nice culpable life and remember you get what you deserve, no complaining now.

dont have a chip , or any fish for that matter ,
I have attended too many accident scenes ,

of course I have sympathy but for the passengers / parents who lost loved ones.
Not for a driver that was intent to drive above his abilities what ever the cost.
not for a driver with 4 convivtions for speeding
not for a parent allowing the driver to use said vehicle with his recent History of driving convictions.

thanks

read the links, sort of thing you should show to kids when they ask to "borrow" your powerful car for the evening.....

You have no idea how hard it was to persuade my mum to let me have 1.8 ltr car at 18. Even now im 19 with 2 years driving behind me in many different vehicles she still worries. I just dont see how any self respecting parent would let an inexperienced kid out in a 500bhp car. Common Sense?

Very sad story!!
My thoughts are with their parents....

I don't think there is anything wrong with giving a powerful car to a young person, its a question of educating the kid not to do silly things - I own a 07 boxster s and i'm 21, not as powerful as an M5 but its not slow.
I'm sure my parents get worried when I go out driving but i have been educated and no not to speed and abuse the car for what it is...

but... M5 is a big car, he had 5 of his mates in with him so he decided to show off and all ended sadly....

RIP Josh.
