Our 730d needs replacing, but I am having trouble working out what it is worth.

Here's the optional spec over and above the 730d SE Auto spec.

Individual sun protection dark tinted glazing for rear window and rear side door windows
Professional telephone
Automatic bootlid operation
Professional navigation system
6 CD changer
BMW professional radio
Hi-fi loudspeaker system
Electric glass roof with sliding and vent function
Soft close automatic (SCA) for doors
3 spoke sports steering wheel
Front comfort multi adjustable electric seats with memory for driver / front passenger + exterior mirrors + seat width adjustment
Club full leather - Flanel grey
20" Y-spoke alloy wheels [149]

She has covered about 35,000 iirc, second service about to happen, good condition. Third owner, first being BMW Demo car.

Dealership offered £26K p/x, for a 535d Touring, but not sure what to replace it with. Thinking about saving money, so going for something suitable for long journeys, but not as expensive.

Any thoughts?

Lexus RX 400 Hybrid, BMW 330d, Audi A6 Avant? What are you looking for, driver appeal, comfort, economy / performance or cost?

comfort is a big consideration, but so is value for money!

A colleague drove the 535d over the weekend and said that it was a rocket, but then going back into the 730d, it was like chalk and cheese.

BMW 335d is an amazing car, in real world terms as quick as an M3, the Lexus is very comfortable and economical for its size, a real 4 seater and with hybrid technology! A6 is beautifully built, loads of space and can be tuned for more oomph!!

If comfort is a main factor then how about a second-hand Jaguar s-type diesel?

no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no ... absolutely not!

I might go and get a test drive of the 335d, see if it is suitable ...

If you think hopping from a 535d to a 730d is chalk and cheese, wait until you get back out of a 3 series...

Also, why not try to locate a 535d SE? Less sporty orientated, might be a good compromise?
