Why would you sell disks with 2k miles on? Sure they aren't warped?

It'll be tricky to verify the condition of secondhand discs bought over the net as Gooby points out.

As an alternative, why not look up the disc options on eliseparts.com or elise-shop.com. You dont say whether its a pair or a full set of four you're looking for, but a full set of budget non-original equipment discs from these guys will start at around 200 quid.

Sorry to say for you, but I won those discs. Got them for £132 but £18p+p. Its a gamble but the discs looked ok in the photos I saw of them.

Im the same as you. Costs mounting up so trying to do things as cheap as possible. Need new shocks, new discs and pads all round, new radiator and just had the head gasket done. Hence, really really skint at the moment!

I hope they were taken off as the guy was upgrading to a set of ali bells or something. They are off an 07 exige! Hes got other Exige bits for sale, so its possibly off a write off.

Max bid was £135.99 so I was starting to sweat a bit. But yeah, if they are ok I think i did get a bit of a bargain. Well, saved myself about £80!

The real question is why would anyone buy secondhand brake parts especially to put on a sports car? banghead

If they're that bad, just change the fronts and wait til you can afford to do the rears.

Because my credit card and overdraft are reaching their limits, I have to replace the discs and pads before MOT time in Feb, and so saving myself £80 on discs which can pay for the pads would seem like good sense.

Although the discs have covered 2k miles, if they are as reported and are genuine oem parts, not scored, warped or otherwised defective, then there will be no difference between fitting these and fitting a brand new set.

In an ideal world, i would buy Ali bells, pagids, and while Im at it, stick a Honda in the back, but unfortunately, some of us have to try and do things on a budget.

Without getting any further into a fight, if they're going to fail an MOT, should you really be driving it at all?

I understand why you're buying secondhand disks and sympathise but that doesn't mean it's a good idea and for the sake of £80 on a safety critical item, not woth it IMO.

I really dont understand the issue. If they are as advertised, ie, genuine oem parts and not damaged at all, whats the problem? When you replace your pads, do you replace the discs as well?

I am a chartered mechanical engineer and in my spare time, have plenty of experience of brake maintenance and rebuilding, so know exactly what I am looking at. Im not talking about buying fake compressed grass brake pads from Thailand here.

Dear God are there Genuine compressed grass brake pads? Do they offer significant weight savings or do people just get them to boost their Eco cred?

ive got a full set of discs taken off my 06 111R last year.

I think they had done aprox 4k miles from new. i also have the original pads which have plenty of meat left.

I live on the Wirral, if youre interested make me an offer. ill even give you a hand to fit them if you can collect.

Cheers,

Beo

I am not getting involved in this spat but NO, you dont change the discs unless they are badly worn or scored. Look to see if there is a lip around the edge of the disc.

Disks arrived, great condition, not warped, scored, marked in any way or even any hint of a lip on the edge, or raised bit towards the hub. Disks have been put on a true flat surface and clocked here in work, and they are completely true. They are also correctly marked up, and as luck would have it, were actually from Plans Motorsport. Guessing my assumption they have come off a car they were modding were true. So, i feel pretty damned pleased about my purchase!

Glad they turned out to be OK - my problem is not with you but there seems to be an increasing number of people who buy Elises because they are relatively cheap and then try and run them on buttons and bits from eBay and while there are those who buy the ali belled disks and race pads to drive to and from work with, there is a middle ground which isn't cutting corners.

I too am a mechanical engineer (your chartered status doesn't scare me wink) and I would never put secondhand brake disks on my cars so I guess we have a difference of opinion - I'll leave it at that.
