Hi,

I will hopefully have a new door/windows control unit soon and before plugging it into the car I would like to check (as best I can) that it isn't going to be fried. The reason I am nervous about this is the last box seemed to die for no known reason (disconnect/reconnect killed it) and I really don't want to kill another one.

So, from the wiring diagram below and with a multi-meter in hand what checks could anyone recommend I perform:

I'm glad the photo looks like how I tried to remember the connector positions. The one with the blue wires in goes above the power.

Although, that box is upside down compared to mine. ing this new box up is not an option - after calling just about every TVR dealer/indie/breakers yard I think I have the only replacement unit in the country.

Now this worries me. Has anyone got the circuit diagrams of these as I'd love to use our resources at work to repair/redesign.

I was thinking about this myself. The unit is very basic inside (I would think somebody with a little spare time could easily build their own) and I dare say with more recent components you could simplify the design greatly. The main problem is the PIC chips as they hold the program for the control unit and seem to become corrupt if you have a power spike. But, what would stop somebody putting a known working PIC chip in a reader and then using that as an image to blast onto replacement chips?

TVR must have known this would happen as the PICs are sitting in IC holders rather than being soldered directly onto the board. The reason for doing this is if you think you will need to regularly replace the PIC chips.

Perhaps this is something that should be pursued for all control boxes as they seem to becoming rarer by the day and hence much more expensive.
