Chap I know is taking delivery of a 535d soon and asked me to find out about remapping it. One of the remapping companies brought up that the new diesels coming out soonish had a different ECU which wasn't remappable, similar to the 335i. Anyone know if this is true?

Yep, I know that with the older models it is possible, but I think the chap was saying in a revision of the 535d there is a new ECU which is unmappable.

Ah, sorry, don't know. Probably best to call the likes of DMS or Thorney etc.

FCUK I wish this is true as it's gonna push up the values of second hand 535d's big time biggrin

On a more serious note even if it is the likes of DMS / Hartge will crack it in due course...

The new 120d 177BHP has a new type of ECU which as far as I'm aware, no tuner has cracked. It is very possible that the other newer BMW's will also have this new type of ECU.

Aha - this could be what is being referenced. I don't suppose you know if anything other then the 120d is being fitted with the new type of ECU?

I would suggest the probability is very high! :-)

Well, the chap was wrong. I'd an LCI 535d, remapped no problems. If you're currently talking to people about remapping and they are coming out with that sort of stuff, i'd be going to DMS or one of the other main players.

Also, if that becomes the case in the future, tuning boxes are available for the 535d - www.tuningbox.com - and no i havent got shares!!

To clarify, they have remapped lots and lots of 535d cars. What they said is that they knew of a changeover coming soon, and an April delivery car would not be mappable because it had a different ECU.

I would be surprised if that were the case. There is a move to 'split up' the ecu's in cars into different places, making remaps much more difficult, but i cant see BMW doing that this late in the life cycle of the e60.

As i said though, if they do, stick a tuning box on it.

Well you could all stop buying the 535d.... The A8 4.2 tdi sport is far better anyway! Plus MTM remap it to 390 bhp and 800nm torque... Nuff said
