LPG in France?
Discussion
The other quirk of LPG/GPL is that the Frenchies don't like you driving through tunnels if you have it installed, and insist you take a detour instead, this means you should drive through the suburbs of Rouen rather than storm into the city on the autoroute (although, how they Police this I don't know...)

Called GPL, widely available but check
http://stations.gpl.online.fr/index.html
for further details.
NO LPG ON THE CHUNNEL THOUGH!!! and they are very strict on this.
Cross Channel Ferries have had no bother in the past.

So is that the sign that looks like a car exploding you see in France a lot? We always joke about how it means 'no car-bombs in this area'
Apparently Eurotunnel didn't think it was worth doing the risk assessment for LPG initially. They have now done it, and there were no problems, but as yet they haven't written it into their procedures.
Our 4.7l V8 Grand Cherokee would be a bit thirsty for the trip, even with LPG, so just as well I'll only have 600cc under me!

About time they did it,considering how many countries in Europe use LPG loads. Our 4.7l V8 Grand Cherokee would be a bit thirsty for the trip, even with LPG, so just as well I'll only have 600cc under me!

Be great to be back on the tunnel and not the ferries.
As (now an ex) qualified LPG fitter I thought I would set a few of your minds at rest.
LPG (if fitted correctly) is safer than petrol and that’s a fact.
If a petrol tank had to go through the same tests as LPG tank it would never be allowed near a car let alone be fitted.
One test, an LPG tank is filled with water and dropped from a height 50’ and must still be perfect.
Try doing that with a petrol tank it just splits open.
Because petrol is so common we tend to forget its very explosive. We even keep it in thin metal tanks and now even in plastic tanks!
When I was a fitter I was involved with 2 accidents, 1 a LT 31 van with LPG fitted by me and another a car fitted by a friend. The van filled with carpets caught fire (caused by electrics) and was a complete write off. The car was hit in the rear by a lorry.
I removed the system from the van the tank still had half a tank of gas and was used in the replacement van.
Apart from the pipe and cables the cars system was used in the guys replacement car.
As a matter of interest we inspected the petrol tanks and on both vehicles both were split lucky for the car driver he was low on fuel (and there was no fire). The van had according to the driver had just under half a tank until it caught fire that is!
Given the choice its LPG for me........its safer.
