Cerb Vs Ultima
Discussion
Hi, have cerb fancy Ultima, oh yes so do i, only been passenger in one, opinion, loud brutish performance, very odd right hand gear selector, cockpit bit claustaphobic, but fantastic, however not as road frendly as a cerb.

Drove an Ultima with 383ci (6300cc) small block Chevy, about 3 months ago, left me a bit disapointed.. i've looked at buying one but no thanks after driving one. This one was slow to rev, my LS motor'd car would beat it in a straight line, no PAS would be a pain in the real world, and the knuckle rap when going for fifth seemed a bit daft, the gear change itself was awkward and slow. looked the Bollox from OUTSIDE though.
I swapped my 6.3 550bhp Ultima GTR for a Cerb last summer. I didn`t get on with the ultima very well even though it looked and sounded great. It was fitted with a very lively cam, kangoing if you let it drop below 2000rpm, not much fun in traffic, parking, hard work, I could not see enough out of the tiny mirrors to reverse in to my garage, so I had to get out and push it in, the short travel suspension meant that when pushing on, on the bumpy roads around us (most of them), the car would constantly lift and spin its tyres, making the Cerb way quicker. On the track or the right road awesome, but,for me, too compromised in too many situations. The Cerb on comparison is superb, nearly as quick in a straight line, looks fab, great fun on the track, and I can put my wife and 2yr old in it and drive to the shops, and 22mpg instead of 9.

Lol just responded to your post in the Ultima forum. Go for it, but make it both as very different cars.
Isn't it about time you bought one ?
But sadly it's tied into me selling a flat in London, which may not happen this year now given the slow market. I really don't want to kick out the tenants and then pay the mortgage for months if it doesn't sell, if tenants offer me another year when they come up for renewal then I will be pretty tempted with the safe option. Car Nuts the pair of ya
TBH to get back to the question in hand, it's a tricky call judging an Ultima, each one I imagine is very unique in the way it performs so buying a used one probably means trying a few out first. If building one, you can make it what you want to be to a degree. LuckyP's did very well at Fighting Torque and as Ultima's go his isn't at top end of the power scale (runs a 5.7 still ASFAIK). Still very different from the Cerb, so both is the only answer

I must admit though, I really do not like the idea of shifting with the right hand....its just not right!
You don't have to shift gear with your right hand......There are 2 gear box options when building an Ultima, the Porsche G50 (which means a right hand gear change) or I beleive it's a Getrag box, which is £500? more expensive, but means your gear stick is in the middle of the car, so you can change with your left hand.....
Most people stick with the G50 to save the cash for something else, but it doesn't have to be that way !

(guess who spent FAAAAAAAR too much time investigating the Ultima 4 years ago)
