Can someone give me a quick run-down of the options for enhancing 4.0 exhausts?

For example, I've seen mention of both "sleeving" and "de-sleeving", cherry bombs (some of which can be added to the existing exhaust?) and de-catting etc. Also Fernhurst TVR mentioned "sports exhaust" for £250 which may or may not be the same as sleeving (or de-sleeving). They said it was easy to do, not so easy to undo.

Would be useful to get an idea of that the options are, and what effect they have (ie louder, or deeper, or changing the sound completely)...

PS I'm not interested (in this stage) in removing any cats.

It's "sleeving" - involves cutting the silencer box and welding in solid pipes instead of the perforated ones. Gives more noise basically.

Cherry Bombs are used to replace the silencer boxes - but essentially it's the same thing.

It's often referred too as a "sports exhaust" - which is wrong IMo, as which ever way you look at it, it's a cut n shut - be we all do it.

Alternative is to have a replacement system made up.

If it's any help, I've having a 'Cherry Bomb' conversion done this Friday at Offord's in Cambridgshire. It involves cutting open one of the silencers, removing the perforated pipe, then replacing it with two short solid pipes with a cherry bomb silencer in the middle. I think they charge about £140 for this. Hope this helps.

will any of these options reduce back pressure?

AFAIK the standard silencers are not the baffled type - just perforations in allowing sound to travel into the silencer box. Sleeving therefore has virtually no effect on back pressure or bhp - just gives more noise.

I absolutely love mine - Austec sleeved mine and was the best £150 I've ever spent. All my cats are still present.
