Changing the Gear Shift Knob
Discussion
I am looking at a nice MOMO shift knob and am wondering if it is a difficult process removing the OEM knob. The service notes state the "knob is a press fit on the lever". Not sure what that means, but sure would like to remove it to put the MOMO in place of it.
Just let me know if the knob can come off "pretty easily".
Thanks and have a good day,
Mike

It won't just slide off.. you will prob need to dismantle, put the shaft in a vice and hit the knob with a big hammer. There is an anternative route however. Check out tony grasso's excellent web site for his solution:

Unfortunately, Lotus changed the shifter stalk starting with the '91 MY, so Tony's design is only good through '90 (cars with red-imprinted shift knob).

I don't know which Momo shifter you have your eye on, but I believe you also need to select one that is compatible with the reverse collar lock, or face some additional work-around.

The shift knob is the MOMO Combat EVO with the red leather accent (to match the car).

Good thought on the reverse collar. This doesn't look like it would accomodate it, but not sure.
