That poor driver must have been looking straight down at the forth river. It probably was not a reassuring site!

Wonder if they thought about these high winds when they decided a new bridge was better than a tunnel? Its not the first time its been completely closed due to high winds.

Na he has blown over onto the centre raised reservation, still not a pleasant experience though.

Anyone else see that the tolls are going to be banished forever very soon, just after they have spent all that money on the new toll booths and gantry! Typical!

No you're right - it's the second time in 44 years (the first time was only 3 weeks ago when some bits of a maintenance platform were dislodged in high winds).

Poor foresight if you ask me...

Is that all? I'll take it back then smile
Wasn't it closed last year (or probably two ago now) because the exact same thing happened - an artic turned on its side between the carraigeways?

When it was closed a few weeks ago they announced that was for the first time in its history.

I don't use it every day so can't be sure, but I certainly don't remember any other time.

Makes you wonder how they manage to block traffic and filter it on the north side of the bridge without tolls!

Was longer ago that I remembered - 2002 was when the previous lorry overturned and driver got to spend some time studying the water below. Buried deep in this article but no real info on it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/1835507.stm

Oh ok I didn't hear of that before.

That'll be 3 times in 44 years then?

I remember that one, I was driving right behind him. Seemed to take ages to fall over. A Bedford full of squaddies was behind me and and they all piled out to help. I had to stay in the car to pacify a hysterical Mrs. Tunku. rolleyes

Comming from Fife, you only have two lanes by the time you get to the bridge. As much as I'd like to give it a shot, I'm not sure if it would be so sensible having the five lanes from the South piling through at 50MPH & all trying to merge into two lanes at once. Some drivers dont seem that great at merging.
