Track Day Car Hire Req'd (For the Nurburgring)..... HELP !!
Discussion
Hiya Everybody,
I'm trying to plan my Stag Weekend and I would love for it to be held at the Nurburgring.
Trouble is, I dont own a particularly track orientated car at the moment and neither do most of my mates who would be coming on the weekend.
I want to hire a car that I can take over to Germany and use on the track, i've tried the 2 sites linked on Ben Lovejoys site but unfortunately, they are left hand drive cars and I would ideally like to hire something I could potentially trailer over there, then bring it back when done.
We are all petrol heads, but still having hanging over our heads the cost involved if you bin it which neither of us want so although I would like something fast to go round in, I wont be driving over my limits as the last thing I want is another expense ontop of the cost of the wedding.
Can anybody recommend somewhere where I could hire a car from (something special) to drive round the Ring and then bring back ?
Stag Weekend planned for May / June time so needto get this planned asap.
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Ringhaus have some caterhams in rhd that you can hire. Failrly basic spec but driven well they will be good for sub 8.30 btg times.
They will be a much cheaper option than taking something over with you - also, you can have two cars between you all.
I know of some options in the uk for taking a car over with you but you would be talking well over a grand before you factor any getting there, insurance costs etc.
Flights to Frankfurt are v. cheap. Also you could fly to cologne / bonn but the times never suit me so don;t know about costs.
I think any uk company would fully expect never to see their car again if a group of lads took it to the ring.

we'd be happy to rent you a car to take out to the ring - but it'd need to be on a bend it mend it basis with a sizeable penalty for any down time caused as a result of it getting bent! Drop me an email if you want to talk about it further. (jonny@bookatrack.com).
As RMac said - not many UK companies going to be chomping at the bit for that type of business.

Drive there is your own car then rent a ring tool. Try www.rent-racecar.de
Your cheapest bet is to get yourselves there and then rent a properly prepared BMW or similar from Rent a race car.de as mentioned above. These are relative cheap to hire about 400 euros a day and above all if you do have an accident your liability will be small (1000 euros say). There are others out there too that rent cars specifically for Ring days but you will need to do a bit searching on the web to find them.

I guess the local renatacar companies have stockked their forecourts exclusively with 900cc donkeys?

Already spoke to somebody at http://www.rent-racecar.de/ but it was a lady.
We were originally hoping to go for the new BMW M3 but as costs were sky rocketing, and more people wanting to come, in order to keep costs down, we have decided to go for the Golf GTI and the Renault Megane R26 or E36 M3 on a basis or 2 per car on the slower cars, or 3 per car on the faster car to give either more driving time in a slower car or less driving time in a faster car.
Do you have any pictures of these cars I could see ?
Thanks,
Scott

Must have been Heide, Theo's frau.
The cars are black. Nothing special about the appearance.
Generally, they only let the faster cars out to repeat customers who have demonstrated that they are safe drivers.
You might start with the slower cars for the first day and then hire one of the quicker cars on the next day. They are quite flexible.
For first timers, Theo also can offer a bit of guidance. Either Theo himself or another local can show them around for a lap, free of charge.

I'd like to second the recommendation for rent-racecar.de
Was there in October - we rented two BMWs and the Golf GTI for the day and had an *absolutely fantastic time*
The BMWs were good and solid RWD cars - felt a bit underpowered but nice.
The Golf though (and bear in mind I hated Golfs until this day) was the most fun I've ever had on 4 wheels - its chipped, stripped out with stiffened suspension and its bloody good fun!
Also like to second the recommendation for Theo @ Rent-Racecar and his other half (I'm sorry I can't remember the name) - they're good people.
Also - stay at the Pistonhaus if you can - and have the steak on a stone (you'll know it when you see it!)
have fun

Cheers for that......S
Righty, got 2 Golf GTI's booked now for the 22nd June......
Been looking for Pistonhaus.... did you mean Ringhaus ?
If not, can you provide details of them so we can book some rooms please ?
Cheers,
Scott
bugger I meant here, that'll teach me to try and type in the middle of the night:
http://www.am-tiergarten.de/
(the Pistenklaus is the name of the bar/restaurant with the steaks on stones)
Its halfway famous - run by Sabine's mum (the lady driver from *that* episode of Top Gear, and many other impressive things besides).

I give them a hand when they are really busy. I've driven a good few of the cars.
I take it you live quite close then do you ?You couldn't take a couple of pictures of the cars for me could you please ? I'd be interested to actually see the cars that we are gonna be driving ;-) Getting really excited now ;-)
Failing that, has anybody got any pictures of their cars from a trip they did at the Nurburgring hiring their cars ?
Cheers again,
Scott
I think you will be happy with your decision, it makes the most sense.
The cars always look well prepped, clean and in great condition considering their lives.
I have no pics but can say that I got my hat firmly nailed on my someone in their megane last year. It was a good looking car, from memory, it looked like it had a half cage and some tasty front seats.
I know they limit the number of laps you do but to be honest, on a public day, you would be lucky to do more.
