I own a 55 plate 330Cd M Sport done 31000 miles. Has anyone got any experience of chipping/re-mapping this type of vehicle. I'm considering it and just wanted some advice/feedback before I went ahead. Can anybody recommend a reputable garage to carry this out? I've heard the block/turbo is good for further enhancement upto 50 or so hp. Is this correct.

Also can you tell me of a good BMW Owners Forum please?

Answers on a postcard.

Cheers, Mal.

Yes you are correct. Many companies are now tuning your car upto 280bhp..and the associated torque. A very worthwhile mod.

Try DMS. They are a very reputable and experianced company.

Thanks very much. If you headed towards 250bhp as oppsed to the alleged standard 204bhp (feels quicker) would you be reducing the life expectancy of the engine greatly? I'll Google DMS now.

I dont think it will affect the engine that considerably. As long as oil is changed frequently and engine/turbo is warmed up, cooled down correctly then reliability should be fine.

Thanks dxb335d. One final question I've had the for a month and its now covered 31,000 miles in total.

Its had the following BMW service history:

PDI @ Delivery Mileage.
Service @ 17,000miles.

The digital readout is saying a service is due in 4000 odd miles time. Is this correct?

I feel that I'd like to do an oil change just cos I do drive the car quite hard. Or should I trust what a digital readout says?! What are the service intervals for this vehicle?

wookie,

I've run a number of 330d's but not had one chipped yet. Mine usually do 20k miles between services. However, I change the oil halfway between dealer services just to be sure. I believe that the only reason the intervals are so big is that the sump holds 6.75 litres. If it held 4, the intervals would be closer.

My last service was done last week. The car had done 20k miles since the last service and still had 1.5k miles to go before it "needed" a visit to the dealer.

Good luck with the chip. Seemingly you can chip the 330d like ours to about 245bhp and 370ft/lbs. Any higher and you'll need/want to sort out the cooling with a front mount intercooler etc.

Is there any reason why you keep saying this? His 330Cd will have the earlier 204bhp variant of the 3.0d and won't therefore remap reliably to 280bhp. It's only the E60/E90+ engines that will do this.

So not the E39 nor the E46.

Yes my mistake, jumped in too quick. I apologize.

Wookie, enjoy your car and let us know how you get on with the tuner you choose?!

options:

1)remap, not just a one-off job, keep doing it as you add other tune-ups
2)bigger injectors
3)new through flow exhaust
4)bigger intercooler
5)bigger turbo

see www.antandpete.co.uk

they got 300bhp from E46 330d (started on 204)
and 370bhp from the 535d engine

I'm either going to go with West Racing @ Thruxton on DMS Automotive on the South Coast. DMS offer a 60bhp increase for £695 plus VAT. But I'm not going to rush into it, so further research will be carried out.

Do lots of research but remember DMS offer a warranty on engine/turbo/gearbox if they fail and BMW wont honour the warranty. Many other tuners do not offer this.
