OK guys I'm being indecisive.
I could potentially buy a beautiful 550 at a very good price.
I'm likely to do less than 6000 miles a year in it...
What am I likely to spend running it? Any likely problems.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Shop around for tyres, I paid about £900 for a set of correct spec Pzero Rosso , you'll certainly need them too, rears last about 6k to 7k miles. Annual at a main dealer around £1200, belts another £600 on top, 18750/ 30k etc is around £1800 tooI could potentially buy a beautiful 550 at a very good price.

some minor faults, Fuel tank breathers rot (a few hours job, fuel smell in cabin is early sign, air con drain blocks (2 hours or so labour or do it yourself), Window design is not optimum and the mechanism can wear resulting in poor sealing particularly along the rear edge Car desperately needs a Tubi or similar sports exhaust as way too quiet
Overall an absolutely brilliant car

I am developing a dangerous obsession with 550's which will only end in me buying one and Mrs K not speaking to me for a week or so.
Had a look at one today where the window mechanism could be heard to work but did not wind the window down and hence it was very hard to shut the door - any ideas on how much that might cost to fix.
Whats a fair price for a 1999/00 550 with sub 30k miles in silver or black

The biggest problem you will have with a 550, is keeping the daft smile off your face whenever you drive it. Go for it. Mines been in the stable for 2 years now. Longest I've ever owned a car and I can't see it going anytime soon either. The Bee Em costs more to maintain over a year.
Oh yeah, the rubber necking from other motorists and pedestrians, and kids taking pictures of you at traffic lights on their camera phones, will always remind you that you made the right choice.
One final word - red....

I agree with Nioks, had my since September 07 and its an event every time i pull it out the garage, red has to be the colour. Not sure if this is correct or not, but when i got mine i spoke to a lot of people, and was told that of the 3808 cars made, that 500 were in rhd form, and of these only 10%-15% were in red, as at that time it was the older guys buying them who wanted to be a bit understated so went for the blues and silvers, so by my reckoning red ones will be quite rare over time.
go for it, you wont regret it

If it's a black 550 near Chester the only advice I could give is......
Run Forest Run
Run Forest Run

Been advertised for over 18 mths now.......I swapped a 996 for a W reg 550 in December. Paid £47k with 34k miles and it's a minter.
I'm totally in love with it. It's a real event every time I drive it, and my god it's fast. My 996 wouldn't have seen which way it went.
I wouldn't use a main agent - rip of money. I use a good specialist (Millbrook), who charge circa £50 hr labour. They have lots of knowledge of these cars.
550's are v reliable. The V12's are bombproof. They drink petrol, but mine is a weekend car so who cares? The handling is sublime.
I just had new rubbeer put on - £200 each plus VAT for rears and £160 plus VAT for fronts (P-Zero's)
£47k for a 7 1/2 year old car is a lot of money on the face of it, but not when you consider mine has nearly depreciated £120k in that period. Supercar bargain.
Check out issue 66 of EVO magazine, in which they rate their top 10 drivers cars 1994 to 2004. They place the 550 top place after stuff like a Zonda, 2 GT3's, 993 turbo, NSXR, Elise, M3 blah blah blah...
