Discovered that the rear subframe and seatbelt support structure on the Elise chassis are made out of steel. Have any long-term owners/owners of older cars had any problems with corrosion of these components?

what are you calling a seat-belt support?

Subframe's are heavy galvinised and tend to be OK, roll frame is more of a problem at the rear stays, I have had to change them before now...

Is this a failry straightforward job with the clam off scuffers.
I've noticed mine are starting top look a little worse for wear.

I cannot think it is an easy job.
The roll bar as a whole is enclosed by the top of the sills bonded to it. This is where the struts are welded to the main roll hoop.
Maybe the way to do it is fabricate a new 1/2 size bottom strut and a sleeve that can slide up out of the way to get the strut in place, then weld the sleeve over the joint. never going to look pretty though.

roll bar is not easy to change, that said, it's do-able...

just a case of cutting though layers of stickaflex where it goes between the bulkhead and the sill section (back of the door apeture)

personally, if your going to change one, replace with a more solid FIA spec one.
